The White House Tried To Cover Up Ivanka’s Illegal Use of Private Email

According to a report published by The Washington Post [1] on Monday, Ivanka Trump used a personal email account to send hundreds of emails last year. The emails were sent to Cabinet officials, White House aides and her own assistants. The emails were related to government business and sent using a private personal email account, not the secure email provided by the government.

Ivanka used the email that is connected to a domain also used by her husband, and fellow White House official, Jared Kushner. Peter Mirijanian is a spokesman for Ivanka’s lawyer Abbe Lowell. Mirijanian confirmed that Ivanka used her private email for government business prior to being told that it was a problem, apparently, she did not pay much attention during her father’s campaign.

Last year, Politico reported on the private email use. The White House pointed the blame at Jared Kushner, another White House adviser and Ivanka’s husband. At the time, the White House claimed that Ivanka had no part in the use of private email. That, as with so much coming from this administration, was a demonstrable lie.

The White House attempted to cover up Ivanka’s private email use. The surely were critically aware of the absurd hypocrisy involved. The White House quietly and discretely tried to stop Ivanka’s private email use. Ivanka’s lawyer went over the emails and said that ones involving government business were handed over to The White House Counsel’s office.

The White House Counsel’s office, however, was never given access to the account. Instead, Ivanka’s lawyer served as gatekeeper, deciding what emails would be preserved. The White House hoped that Ivanka’s private email use would go unnoticed. A former official said of Ivanka’s private email use, “She was the worst offender in the White House.”

In an attempt at damage control now that the truth is out, a spokesperson said, “While transitioning into government, after she was given an official account but until the White House provided her the same guidance they had given others who started before she did, Ms. Trump sometimes used her personal account, almost always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family.”
