Donald Trump tweeted a video Friday night warning warning that a government shutdown appeared inevitable, while adding that it would “hopefully” not last a long time.
In the video released hours after Congress adjourned for the day, Trump warned of violent, criminal gangs which he argued were infiltrating the U.S. along its southern border while calling for the Senate to approve a bill passed by the House that would fund the government including billions of dollars for Trump’s planned border wall.
“Our great country must have border security. We don’t want people coming in who aren’t supposed to be here,” Trump says in the video. “It’s very dangerous out there. Drugs are pouring in.”
Trump goes on in the video to call on Senate Democrats to support the House bill, which failed to move to the floor of the Senate on Friday following a “no” vote from Sen. Jeff Flake,
“Now it’s up to the Senate, and it’s really up to the Democrats, because we need their votes,” Trump says. “We’re going to have a shutdown — there’s nothing we can do about that.”
“Call it a Democrat shutdown, call it whatever you want,” he continues. “Let’s work together, let’s be bipartisan and let’s get it done. The shutdown hopefully will not last long.”
Twitter quickly called him out:
This is so deranged. So utterly, disturbingly deranged. https://t.co/lILaKbMAZ2 [1]

This might be the worst produce POS propaganda piece ever released. Stephen Miller should be ashamed of both his evil, white supremacist heart, and the quality of this turd-tape. To boot, @realDonaldTrump [5] didn't even have a message of hope to those whose holiday he just shat on. https://t.co/dDSAiAhN3J [6]

1. You took “ownership” of the shutdown. No take-backsies.
2. “Let’s be bipartisan” is not the term to use when you’re blackmailing them to give you what you want, or you’ll piss your pants.
3. The “wall” is now a “slat fence”.
4. Mexico still isn’t paying.
Not going well! https://t.co/VmdoE8gID1 [8]

Truman had a sign on his desk, "The Buck Stops Here." It meant that everything that happened while he was the Chief Executive of the United States of America, he was accountable for the decisions made in his tenure. That seems to have been lost on current occupant of the office. https://t.co/cGjwYn0cHb [10]
