Trump Requires a Lock on his White House Bedroom Door Despite Secret Service Objections

Donald Trump can sleep soundly at night knowing that he has a lock on his bedroom door—something he personally requested, according to CNN reporter Kate Bennett.

As a member of the White House press corps focused on the first lady and the Trump family, Bennett wrote an unauthorized biography of the first lady titled Free, Melania, which came out on December.

It is already public knowledge that Trump’s bedroom is on the second level of the White House residence while his wife, Melania Trump, sleeps one floor above him, but Bennett’s book reveals that the first lady also has her own “glam room,” where she does her hair and makeup, and a private gym with a Pilates machine.

The biography also provides insight into the surgery Melania underwent in May 2018 to treat a medical issue that Bennett writes was “indeed not minor.”

She says “an embolization of a growth of some sort, small or large, when attached to the kidney, as hers might have been, made for a dangerous and complicated procedure,” which was confirmed by one of Bennett’s trusted sources. She further writes, “if her recuperation was not careful and extended, her type of condition could possibly result in the loss of her kidney.”

Regarding the lock on Trump’s bedroom door, the Secret Service reportedly objected at first, but eventually allowed Trump to have the lock, knowing they could bust the door down if they needed to.

Donald Trump also reportedly asked for multiple televisions to be placed in his White House bedroom.

Trump wanted two additional TVs in his bedroom to accompany the one that was already there, according to excerpts from Michael Wolff’s book, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.”

Trump has frequently clashed with the media over how much television he watches. In 2018, Trump pushed back on a New York Times story saying that he has a “prodigious” viewing habit, calling it “wrong!”

“Believe it or not, even when I’m in Washington or New York, I do not watch much television,” Trump told reporters last year. “People that don’t know me, they like to say I watch television — people with fake sources. You know, fake reporters, fake sources.”

Wolff also claimed that Trump yelled at housekeepers for picking up shirts off the floor.

“If my shirt is on the floor, it’s because I want it on the floor,” Trump reportedly told the housekeeping staff.

Trump also established new rules about his room and possessions. He instructed that nobody touch his belongings — particularly his toothbrush. He also said he would let housekeeping know when he wanted his sheets cleaned and that he would strip his own bed.
