GOP Hypocrisy

A Desperate, Paranoid, and Possibly Medicated Trump Calls Coronavirus the New Hoax

Well, I just live blogged the South Carolina speech, and I won’t be right for quite some time. Really, no one should have to go through that. It was terrifying, it was hilarious (my coverage, not him), and very sad at points. He claimed that the Coronavirus – a real thing that has really killed people, and is getting people sick in the United States, is somehow the new “hoax” that Democrats are blaming on him

That is exceedingly dangerous.

This is a man who maintains that everyone who has ever said anything bad about him is a “terrible person.” Anything that has ever gone wrong with anything in his life is someone else’s fault. Any challenge or difficulty in his presidency is “fake,” it’s the Democrats who are just trying to “burn it all down,” and like everything else in his life, the terrible people are thinking terrible things like how they want to destroy the United States.

So now his administration is challenged by a very real problem, and there is real reason to worry even if no one cared about politics. Thus, like everything else in his world, it simply must be a combination of fake news, terrible people, Democrats wanting people to die and his own victimhood. He has no other tools to deal with anything.

Watch this. An normal adult can say this:

“Our nation now faces a real challenge. Diseases like this have been seen before, and can come with no warning. But we have an ability to limit the damage. It is going to take everyone pulling together. This isn’t something to be political about. Democrats and Republicans will come together and help get this nation through it, and we need your help, too. The United States is better positioned to fight this disease than any other. I have faith in all of us, coming together to protect everyone. This is one thing we have to come together about.”

No adult would have a problem with that at all. Such a statement would vastly ease the fear seen throughout the markets.

But Trump simply doesn’t have the tools. He will be the last one to know that he’s actually making it worse, and more difficult. He will be the last to know it is not a hoax.
