Evidence that Trump Is Now Infuriating Some in GOP: First Barr, now Cornyn Saying ‘Calm the F**K Down’

Okay, so he didn’t actually say “Hey, Mr. President, “sir,” you need to calm the f*ck down.” No, not in those words. But you better believe that Trump’s ego is likely to take the more mild statement to be just as powerful, sooo …

John Cornyn, hardly a “profile in courage,” took to the web pages of “Politico,” and noted that Trump’s temper is not helping anything, and then backed up Attorney General Bill Barr:

“The president does have a tendency to lash out, and I think in this case he would be well advised to try to temper that,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX). “Because I think Bill Barr is his best path on seeing that justice is done in terms of all of these various investigations, including the counterintelligence investigation and the lead-up to the Mueller report.”

Now, to be sure, there are any number of other deeply concerning issues within that statement.

For one, and I cannot emphasize this enough, Republicans know damn well how important it is to have Barr in as Attorney General. Barr brings a couple intangibles no one else possesses.

One, Barr has been attorney general under a normal president. Thus, he has some kind of cover as a “normal politician” and not a dictator-facilitating hack, which he very much is. But Barr does have that scintilla of cred having “been in this position back when adults ran the government and it was a democracy.”

Two: Barr flirts with criminality – more so – as much as any of the other Republicans who have carried Trump’s water. He’s arguably lied to Congress, he’s interfered in investigations, and dumped the Ukrainian investigation into Trump all for political purposes. Thus, Barr has a vested interest in protecting any other criminals within the Republican party, lest the whole thing split open, exposing all of them to an investigation that could open … well, who the hell knows what, at this point.

So Cornyn has reasons to support Barr. Barr is just too perfect for that position.

Additionally, we must note that Cornyn “softened” the criticism of Trump by stating how important it was to get to the bottom of how that darned counter-intelligence op got started. This “concern” is critical to Trump because Trump cannot afford to have a real investigation into his finances.

Trust me, I am reading “Dark Towers” the newly released book about Deutsche Bank and Trump, it is stuffed with unusual shit that is begging for answers. It is “criminal” that these issues are not being investigated, and Trump’s motivations for half of what he does is to prevent there ever being an investigation into him, ever again.

There is nothing Trump fears more than another investigation into his finances. Thus, as Cornyn was telling Trump to “shut the f-up,” he coated it with sugar, letting Trump know that keeping his damned mouth shut (more, at least) will help him wall off any future investigations. Incidentally, that’s the only real “wall” Trump cares about.

In that sense, this is outrageous. These people know of Trump’s ties to Russia. They may not be criminal ties, but there is plenty of evidence readily available that screams out for investigation, and yet Republicans flat don’t care.

Still, even with all that, we still have Cornyn, a prominent Republican senator, lending his voice to Barr’s, telling Trump to can it. That is indicative of something. Trump blasted out of the impeachment acquittal going full dictator.

“Talk” or “tweeting shit” is the least of Trump’s offenses, retaliatory firings, pardons of guilty people, these are the real abuses, and probably the real concern for Republican senators.

But “talk” is the most easily addressed without scaring the hopelessly paranoid and thin-skinned Trump. Telling Trump to can the “talk,” might also be sending an even more subtle message: “There are limits, man. You’re pushing them, rein it in a little.”

I think Trump is getting a little pushback on his fascist shit. It may seem insignificant, but it’s not. Any little thing that tells Trump – “No, you can’t do whatever you want,” actually matters right now.
