Scotland Goes There: May Investigate Trump for ‘Risk He’s Involved in Serious Crime’

Our country certainly has the most exposure to Trump’s possible crimes, but we aren’t the only one. One of the problems with Trump’s past and current behaviors is that he spread them across the world, wherever he thought there was money to be made. Finally it appears that another country believes the risk to them requires an investigation into Trump, and they need not worry about a Congress blocking it, or a subservient supreme court.

Scotland is one of those places with Trump properties, highly controversial properties, and some government officials in Scotland are pushing for a big-time investigation into Trump, convinced there’s real reason to think he’s involved in serious crimes, summarized by Rawstory:

A Member of the Scottish Parliament is asking his fellow ministers to investigate President Donald Trump’s deals through which he acquired his properties in Scotland, including Trump’s two multi-million dollar losing golf courses. President Trump prizes his Turnberry, Scotland  resort, but reports that the American president is using the U.S. federal government to help keep it afloat have dogged him.

Wow, like a breath of fresh air. The United States’ unwillingness to truly get to the bottom of all that “appearance of serious crime” has bordered on recklessness. (Never mind the actual proven crimes such as obstruction of justice found by Mueller). But again, other countries have real exposure, too.

Harvie is urging lawmakers to seek an apply for an “unexplained wealth order” from a Scottish court, which would allow them to learn how the U.S. president “bankrolled his multimillion acquisitions of land and property in his mother’s homeland.”

I assume that a Scottish “apply” is the equivalent of what we call a “petition” to a court, or some other government department. I also believe the “unexplained wealth order” is just an alternative name for money laundering.

We have had very reliable reports that Trump submits one number for tax purposes, and another number for loans. Such an act could be called either bank fraud or tax fraud. Trump has blocked all efforts to obtain his taxes, which is inexcusable. Scotland may not be so cavalier in their approach. Perhaps they simply want the truth and will ignore Trump’s protests to get that objective data.

Finally, another country is willing to “go there,” and demand some answers from a man who always acts like he is above investigation, something previously inconceivable for a U.S. president.

It is shameful that we haven’t done it. But we all benefit from a country that does.
