Confirmed: Trump Lied About Why He Rejected WHO Tests — One of the Most Catastrophic Presidential Failures in History

It is now understood, and Nicole has covered this issue here with solid facts and the rigor the issue deserved, that Trump’s decision to turn down the WHO Coronavirus tests offered was one of the most brutally incompetent and bone-headed decisions a president has ever made, one that will have ripple effects that kill people, that is now a fact.

What we are learning as newly established is  – surprise – Trump lied about the reason he rejected those WHO tests.

As set forth by Crooks and Liars, the lie was as naked as any but far far more devastating:

During his press conference, Donald Trump claimed the WHO tests were not up to FDA standards, choosing instead to develop our own. Dr. Joseph Fair confirms the exact opposite is the case.

“The reason WHO didn’t offer us the test is because they only offered them for free to impoverished nations,” Dr. Fair explained on MSNBC. “We have to buy them.”

Turning to the question of flawed tests, Dr. Fair said, “The tests that were out that were inaccurate were — false positives and false negatives — were actually the CDC tests, not the commercial tests.”

Our tests were the ones that sucked. We cannot be too harsh upon the staff at the CDC failing to get an accurate test out in time. We know they had tremendously burdensome time constraints, and we know that Trump long-before any of this, blasted the CDC’s funding and staffing at the worst time.

The Washington Post reports that – somehow – one committed husband and wife managed a company that built over a million tests for the WHO, in the time it took the CDC to build a test that failed its first run-through.

Founder of a small Berlin-based company, the ponytailed 54-year-old first raced to help German researchers come up with a diagnostic test and then spurred his company to produce and ship more than 1.4 million tests by the end of February for the World Health Organization.

“My wife and I have been working 16 hours a day, seven days a week, ever since,” Landt said by phone about 1 a.m. Friday, Berlin time. “Our days are full.”

Those tests worked and were more than up to CDC standards. Trump lied, and eventually, we will find out why. If we know anything about Trump, we will suspect that somehow, he had an angle in the tests produced and used – or, he just didn’t want people tested, because he thought tests meant descending markets.

Markets were going to descend anyway. Little did Trump know that the markets knew exactly what Trump was doing, and punished the behavior more. Markets cannot deal with uncertainty, and Trump was creating uncertainty. The lie was as obvious as it was catastrophic, one of the most catastrophic lies-decisions ever made by a president.
