Everything Will Be Okay: Yes, Pence IS Actually Going to Pray the Virus Away

I have done too much research on the epidemic and the government’s response to see this picture on this particular day. Feast your eyes on this and join me below:

I don’t care that it is the Vice-President, it is still a government meeting of government officials. This particular government does not practice religion, period. As we see other areas of our constitution being withered away and being replaced by authoritarian practices, this is actually a sickening sight. What was the old saying? That when fascism comes to America it will be holding a flag and a cross?

It would be offensive if they were the global leaders in the fight against the epidemic with cutting edge science, lots of money, tests, public outreach, and doctors flying here from all over to learn. It is just more offensive when it is the polar opposite. They are suppressing information while taking time to pray.

This leads right in to my second criticism here. They are posing for a camera – that is obvious. Are we supposed to believe otherwise? They know a camera is in the room (even if it is just a phone), and someone put the picture out to the public. Since it is Mike Pence, and Mike Pence leads a task force that is the only source of information on the government’s response, it would certainly seem like a logical conclusion that Mike Pence allowed the picture to be put out, or more likely, specifically arranged for the picture to be put out.

To what end? Does he think God is more likely to “hear” his prayers if the picture is on the internet? Or does he think that the evangelical community that is the bedrock of Trump’s base – the same people who maybe are a little older and worried about the response to the virus – will maybe think more highly of the effort, have their hearts warmed that “good people” are in charge and will do the right thing?

I think there is a ton of the latter here. I see manipulation in every direction with respect to Trump, Pence, and their handling of the epidemic. Call me overly cynical but I see this as a pitiful effort to build some credibility and avoid a lot of the outrage.

Plus, I think Jesus (the actual one, not the blonde, blue-eyed, money-making one), I think he said something about praying in public versus private. Maybe someone should tell Pence about this Jesus guy, the real one.
