Former Trump Official Warns ‘Hundreds of Thousands’ Dead if Workers Come Back too Soon

Even as Trump is pushing on the 9th day after guidelines called for workers to quarantine, and yet talking about going back to work at the end of the 15th day (telling us that people “want to go back to work” which would be true in any situation in just about any other situation except one in which they might contract a disease that threatens them and loved ones), others are talking about the reckless risks taken by this administration. Some of the most vehement include former Trump administration officials themselves, one of which is Thomas P. Bossert, a former Homeland Security advisor. Per Rawstory: [1]

Writing on Twitter [2], Bossert argued against downplaying the health risks posed by the pandemic in the name of getting Americans back to work. “The case fatality rate is the percentage of people infected that die,” he wrote. “People saying it’s only 1 percent must acknowledge the total number goes up, in real lost lives, if we prematurely return to open society without controls. More infected people means more total deaths. 1 percent of 66 million = 660K.”

The other thing that seldom gets discussed is that the death rate is not the end of the story when it comes to damages. There will be many more that get very sick, lose 2-4 weeks of work because that person might have required ICU treatment, and those people will not be caught in the numbers of dead. Yet they will have made a massive sacrifice, undergo tremendous suffering, and lose a lot of money and work.

Additionally, the 1% number gets tossed around a lot but it hasn’t been established here in the United States yet. I calculated a number that was 1.8% just two days ago, using total cases and total deaths, – and shortages of medical equipment haven’t kicked in yet, nor has the virus spread to all areas.

People do recognize that Trump fully appreciates the danger to the economy, but doesn’t appreciate the damage to people, which also damages the economy while destroying so many lives.
