Election 2020
People Worried That Trump Could Cancel Election If He Looks Vulnerable Due to Coronavirus Failures
It is the nightmare, a horror story perhaps coming true. We are already seeing the campaigns canceling major events. Rallies have been canceled, even Trump MAGA events. The next Democratic debate will be held without an audience. The NBA has canceled the rest of its season until further notice (and the virus is expected to get much worse before it gets better), the NCAA has not canceled its tournament, but will play in empty arenas, and may still yet cancel the entire thing – or delay it. Everything is different now.
Trump has reacted ridiculously, he has denied and denied, it is on the other side of the world, he stopped it, he closed the borders, it will disappear miraculously, and then now. Looking like an ass at every opportunity, including this night in a press conference meant to assuage voters, he is having the opposite impact. His ratings, and thus his opportunities for reelection are sinking like a rock. All of it happening to a man who has implied that he wants to be president for life.
Is it possible that he delayed the coronavirus response purposefully? Is it possible that he allowed the the virus to sweep through the country to an extent that it shuts nearly everything down, including the election? No, almost surely not. But that is not the end of the question. The question extends to what now? Does he shut down the election until things get better?
The possibility is out there, and speculation is running through the net. It is almost surely not going to happen, I suspect that there exists less than a 1% chance that the election would get canceled , and yet who could have imagined this just two weeks ago? We must also soberly admit that as Trump’s ratings dive (and they are diving), he is one of the few people who would be willing to take the most drastic measures under the pretense of safety, but transparently in an attempt to save himself.
Maybe Trump doesn't want to stop the spread.
Maybe Trump wants to cancel the election.
For our own good.
Sounded fringe last week.
Maybe not so this week.— Iris is scared for us all (@IrisHofle) March 12, 2020

That is the worry.
Journalist S.E. Cupp is right on the edge of asking the question, already noting the change to the political climate, what might it mean going forward, even with the vote itself.
Real talk: Should presidential candidates, including Trump, cancel big rallies in light of Coronavirus? And does that hugely change the election?

Below, one of the things that I think he might float, just to see what reaction he will get. The blowback would be like no other. And yet if he sees himself losing …
@SpeakerPelosi I have a serious question on the election. With the Corona virus thing blowing up. Is it possible Trump could delay or cancel the election on the premise of a public health crisis or state of emergency type thing?

Again, no one wants to descend to irresponsible speculation, but again, we are led by a man who appears to want to do anything to keep from losing the presidency, and if this presents the best chance, one does have to wonder. He is going to take a massive hit for bungling this:
This is Trumps backup plan, if it looks like he's going to lose, he will just cancel election due to pandemic that he just help create. Just saying!

Finally, here is the most dangerous aspect. Let’s say he is going to do it. Who is going to stop him?
TRUMP WILL CANCEL THE ELECTION ONCE WE GET MILLIONS OF CASES IN NEXT 2 WEEKS. WHO CAN STOP HIM? GOP R AFRAID OF HIM.

I don’t know. One would normally think that taking to the streets would do it, but then again, taking to the streets might invite marshal law to be invoked.
