The Trump Campaign Is Now Terrified: They Are About to Lose

Regular readers will know that we have been saying for some time that the wave will crash over Trump’s voters soon enough. I keep pointing toward summer, and the decision to cut-off a college football season right in the midst of a presidential campaign. I know it seems trite – it’s not. It is trite in comparison to hearing that the rural hospitals throughout the heartland don’t have enough ventilators and are not accepting new patients with symptoms, and that is surely coming, too.

Now the LA Times, via Rawstory, is reporting that the Trump campaign knows the wave that is coming, and is terrified. They aren’t looking at Trump’s current ratings bump – they’re looking down the road to when “red-voters” start getting sick.

“The advisers have warned Trump that the political consequences at the ballot box in November will be even worse if he is seen as too lax,” the paper reports.

On that, it’s too late.

Sure, he can make up for some of it by being more vigilant now, but people are going to remember this February as “the lost month” – those weeks that we otherwise would have been fighting the virus, but instead got Trump assurances it would be nothing, and it was contained.

The former Trump official also tells the paper that the advisers’ message on taking COVID-19 seriously was, “pay attention” or “you’re going to lose the election.”

I am not sure there’s any stopping it at this point. Biden was already leading in the polling even in the middle of a good economy (Wall Street did believe Trump would win, now they will want him gone).

According to Rawstory, Trump trails Biden by six percent, but that is with the current bump. The economy and the nation’s health is surely about to take a dive as the months drone on.

People – including myself, all too often – don’t realize, we’re not “in the middle of this,” we’re barely at the beginning. The esprit de corps is high now compared to what it will be in the heat of the summer, with no summer vacations, no trips, no nothing …

It is going to get bad for Trump whether he pays attention or not. His campaign knows it, and is terrified.
