Trump Officials Talking ‘Loosely’ About Rallies at End of April with Possible Distancing

Well, let’s start with a couple of questions. How could one possibly have a rally with people “not quite so pressed together,” and is that really a rally? Is he planning on holding them on a par 5 at Doral? Next question, why would one want to hold a “rally” without people coming together to join in the “jubilance” in soaking up his greatness?

Yes, we know “why,” and it is only partly due to the coming campaign. The biggest reason would be because he needs those rallies like he needs his hydration.

Alright, let’s get into this article and figure out just how ridiculous this idea might be. I don’t suppose it has occurred to them that – concerning the redder states – the virus might well be worse in early April. We sure hope not, but it’s a possibility.

The article addresses a broader question as to how the virus has transformed the election and the campaign. One would think that the logical starting point would be to note that there would be very few “rallies” but I guess that’s not the idea with team Trump.

This is for now the country’s first virtual campaign, as the risk of disease physically separates candidates from the people they seek to represent, and pushes officeseekers from Mr. Biden on down to appeal to homebound voters and contributors through balky web videos.

In my opinion, and it’s only that, if the campaign is so structured, it is to Biden’s disadvantage. Trump can do press conferences from the White House and rely on the privilege of the office. But I doubt that disadvantage will mean much when compared to Trump’s bungling, the ridiculous promises, and the continued worsening (should it happen), all that favors Biden.

The president has already displayed impatience and pique that could damage his re-election chances, lashing out at governors, refusing to take any responsibility for the coronavirus crisis and suggesting Americans can return to life as usual in a way that experts say could exacerbate the spread of the virus.

His campaign is already discussing the possibility of a rally-style event in one of the less-affected states in late April, although one adviser said those discussions are preliminary.

The article didn’t mention that Trump picked a fight with a Governor of one of the most important swing states in the country – Michigan, to the point that even Michigan Republicans are backing up their governor over Trump, which is very bad news for Trump. Moreover, the Republican Governor in Florida, also a critical state, is matching the president pound for pound in focusing on the economy.

All in all, things will be very different, although it appears to me that Trump’s team has yet to appreciate how different. Rallies in late April? Early May? Making them safer? Why in the world would they even want to do that, risking people’s lives and having that risk come back to the campaign, too?

Never mind. We know exactly why the campaign would take on that risk, and it’s rather difficult to believe.
