During Trump’s tedious – now daily – coronavirus press conference, Trump said he was committed to limiting any rise in hate crimes against Asian-Americans [1] brought on by the epidemic.
But the moment he was asked to give a specific example of anything he might be doing, Trump was done discussing the matter. Per Rawstory’s great report. [2]
“What are the concrete measures that you are taking to combat the hate crimes against Asians?” asked the reporter.
“Well, I don’t know,”
Which would seem to be important if someone insists upon going around calling it the “Chinese virus.”
“All I know is this: Asian-Americans in our country are doing fantastically well. I’m very close to them, as you know. And they’re doing fantastically well, and I think they appreciate the job we’re doing. But I did want to put that statement out, the social media statement, because, to me, Asian-Americans are a great part of our country.”
All I know is there’s a person or group in this country – other than Democrats – that aren’t doing fantastically well, because you’re president, and so of course they are. Like every other group, except Democrats, they appreciate the great job you’re doing. Which is kind of insulting?
If you believe Asian Americans are such a great part of our country, wouldn’t it occur to you beforehand that perhaps calling it the Chinese virus might set some of the MAGA-heads off, the people that tend to attack the people at which you seem angry?
And, last, as I wrote earlier today, your platitudes are making me want to drink, a lot, because I haven’t heard such vapid bullshit since … since your wife tweeted earlier today.
