Is Donald Trump Planning to Use Dr. Fauci as a Scapegoat to Cover Up His Own Mistakes?

Salon has a haunting new article that offers another answer as to why Trump continues to pump hydroxychloroquine while keeping Dr. Anthony Fauci from speaking during press conferences. The theory goes far beyond just believing that Trump has money in the manufacturers of the drug – though he could, it’s not mutually exclusive – and goes to a much darker place, where one begins to fear “our” president, and fear that of which he’s capable. Trump will literally destroy any life he needs, in order for him to live to see another day. Is Dr. Fauci next?

Yes, according to Salon. Trump is soon going to be in need of a lot of villains to take the blame for the many deaths that are coming, and Fauci is going to be one of the ones on billboards:

He’s starting to workshop the excuses he will use and the scapegoats he will sacrifice in order to escape the blame — which he richly deserves for how badly this crisis spun out of control. And the person most in danger of becoming the primary scapegoat for Trump and his minions is Fauci himself. “If it does work, it would be a shame we did not do it early,” Trump said about hydroxychloroquine during the press conference Sunday.

Only someone with Trump’s minimal mental depth could utter a statement like “it would be a shame …” It is no different than taking a plant that might be poison, might be a potent cure, and while testing it to find out “which” it might be, utter the same, “be a shame if it works we didn’t do it earlier.”

Now we’re in a situation where we all want it to work well, and yet now if it does work, Trump is going to use it as “his excuse” for all the death and will put those deaths on Dr. Fauci.

At that point, it became clear to me what Trump hopes to get out of this endless hype about an unproven and dangerous drug: A QAnon-style conspiracy theory he can roll out, after the worst of the crisis has passed, about his heroic efforts to save everyone with a miracle drug, which were thwarted by shady “deep state” forces who denied the public this lifesaving drug as part of a plot to make him look bad.

And at that point, Dr. Fauci’s life will be in real danger (more so than it already is) because the MAGA heads will pin those deaths right on Dr. Fauci’s chest. Never mind the fact that Trump has already caused many deaths, and even caused death by someone taking hydroxychloroquine without a prescription – none of it will matter. The MAGA heads will blame their grandmother’s death on Dr. Fauci.

And now the horrific – the better this all works, the more danger Dr. Fauci and others are in:

It’s easy to see where all this is going. If the social distancing works to contain the virus, conservative pundits will point to the lower-than-feared death toll as evidence that the virus was never that serious — but not, of course, that the severe restrictions on daily life actually worked. They’ll claim that quarantine measures were never necessary, and suggest that hydroxychloroquine was a real solution that was available the whole time but got left on the table thanks of the “deep state” conspiracy against Trump. (Rather than because there’s no evidence this often-dangerous drug is actually a cure for COVID-19.) And Fauci will be held up as the straw-man villain in this conspiracy because he supported social distancing and was skeptical of Dr. Trump’s miracle drug.

My god.

Trump is a monster. He is going to do this. Now I don’t know which is worse for the nation, whether this medicine works well, or if it doesn’t, and thus proves Trump to be wrong.

We do know that facts will not bother Trump, nor the MAGAs at all.
