Americans Stunned After Trump Doesn’t Say ONE WORD About Minneapolis During Rose Garden ‘Press Conference’
Earlier today, it almost seemed like Donald Trump (and his family, on Twitter) just noticed that George Floyd lost his life at the hands of the Minneapolis police, on camera, in broad daylight last Monday.
So last night, after tweeting that once the looting starts, the shooting starts, and beginning his day in a rage about Twitter, Trump thought it to be a fine day for a news conference, but he had to get in a few last tweets prior to the press conference:
REVOKE 230!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 29, 2020
Section 230, the section that gives social media and digital platforms immunity from lawsuits. Trump is keeping his focus on Trump, mad at Twitter.

And another tweet clarifying his angry “THUGS” tweet which didn’t really clarify anything:
Looting leads to shooting, and that’s why a man was shot and killed in Minneapolis on Wednesday night – or look at what just happened in Louisville with 7 people shot. I don’t want this to happen, and that’s what the expression put out last night means….
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 29, 2020
….It was spoken as a fact, not as a statement. It’s very simple, nobody should have any problem with this other than the haters, and those looking to cause trouble on social media. Honor the memory of George Floyd!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 29, 2020
So did Trump talk to the nation about what the nation is going through at this Rose Garden “press conference?” No, of course not. Trump wanted to talk about the awful Chinese people. China is basically the Twitter of nations. Trump is busy blaming his COVID troubles on China. “The world needs answers from China, we must have transparency.”
Everything about this is tonally off. Like way off.
— Jonathan Capehart (@CapehartJ) May 29, 2020
Yes, because an American city is ready to burn to the ground. The country doesn’t care about China this week.
He withdrew us from the WHO, furthering his mission to take the United States from global leader to small victimized nation.
He read from the teleprompter like a champion third grader. One could see his eyes focusing and the big breaths and he turned to the other teleprompter. He had real energy, swinging up and down in the sing-songy voice he does when reading, leaning on the podium with his elbow.
Trump looks like he is so jacked up on Adderall right now his own body is rioting against him. @realDonaldTrump

And then Trump didn’t take a single question.
He didn’t say one word about Minneapolis, didn’t say a thing about COVID – except blaming it all on China – and didn’t say a thing about the economy. He didn’t even talk about Twitter!
Chuck Todd hit it right on the head. He seemed basically “afraid” to say anything.
Speaking of Twitter, it exploded.
Are we at war yet?
— Charles P. Pierce (@CharlesPPierce) May 29, 2020
We don’t know. We are in the midst of a civil war.
Trump does not give a f+++ about dead African Americans. That's what he effectively said.
— Jennifer Rubin (@JRubinBlogger) May 29, 2020
That is the takeaway. Might I point out that Jennifer Rubin is a conservative, former Republican columnist for the Washington Post? That is one very strong statement. It might have to lead as the takeaway from the “press conference.”
Trump just blew off what the WH has called a press conference. Clearly knew his cleanup tweet wasn’t going to fly.
— Jim Acosta (@Acosta) May 29, 2020
It is not a press conference when you just read a statement, which is all he did. Trump didn’t want questions about all his tweets.
“Is the president afraid to lead right now?” – @chucktodd to @KatyTurNBC
— Ali Velshi (@AliVelshi) May 29, 2020
Yes.
The guy who wouldn’t let Don McGahn testify to Congress, show his tax returns or submit to a physical, says the world needs answers from China. No, we need them from you. @realDonaldTrump
— NoelCaslerComedy (@CaslerNoel) May 29, 2020
Right.
President Trump just wrapped up his press conference without a single word about Minneapolis or a single word of condolence to the family of George Floyd.
Trump made his position known: he doesn't care.
— Max Burns (@themaxburns) May 29, 2020
Exactly.
People are stunned and FURIOUS:
Amazing. Trump goes to the Rose Garden. He talks about Hong Kong. Not a word about George Floyd’s murder. Nor about the violence and riots in Minneapolis. Nor about the 101,000 Covid deaths in just 3 months. Do we even HAVE a president? What does he imagine his job covers? Golf?
— Laurence Tribe (@tribelaw) May 29, 2020
Stunning.
President Trump says nothing about Minnesota as the nation is on edge and leaves the Rose Garden without taking questions.
— Yamiche Alcindor (@Yamiche) May 29, 2020
After saying Hong Kong a gazillion times in the Rose Garden, trump left without taking questions.
NOT ONE WORD about Minneapolis. He is a coward, afraid to lead.
He will NEVER be My President.
— BrooklynDad_Defiant! (@mmpadellan) May 29, 2020
I told you he was a bitch. He read a teleprompter and waddled away from the Rose Garden real quick. Didn’t mention Minneapolis. Didn’t take any questions. Good. We don’t want to hear from him anyway.
He’s not a leader. He’s a fucking coward.
— DeMarcus 🛹 (@semperdiced) May 29, 2020
As America grapples with the senseless death of #GeorgeFloyd, Donald Trump just made an address in the Rose Garden and failed to mention anything about Minnesota.
Absolutely no leadership in a time of peril and crisis. It’s despicable.
— Matt Hill (@thematthill) May 29, 2020
Unfucking believable! Trump just gave his press conference in the Rose Garden and didn’t mention Floyd or the coronavirus!?! China! All he spoke on was China, didn’t take questions and turned his back and walked away!?! He doesn’t give a damn! pic.twitter.com/hlWcegGmzT
— Michael (@Michael34229136) May 29, 2020
President Trump in the Rose Garden tells reporters: "I am here to talk about China.”
He has not mentioned George Floyd, Minneapolis or his tweet on the protests.
CNN has a split screen up showing protests around the country.
— Allie Malloy (@AlliemalCNN) May 29, 2020
Wait, so Trump had a whole ass press conference in the Rose Garden and the only thing he said was that we're terminating our agreement with WHO (during a pandemic), then turned and walked out? What an utter fucking, cowardly, pussy-assed bitch.
— JGT (@jengordonthomas) May 29, 2020
Not one word about Minneapolis. Not one. He just walks away. This is a signal from Trump. pic.twitter.com/Asmn5ftETn
