Joe Biden Shows Trump How It’s Done: Marks 100K COVID Deaths with Empathetic and PRESIDENTIAL Message

In a Wednesday evening video marking the grim milestone of 100,000 Americans who have died during the coronavirus pandemic, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden offered his condolences to a grieving country, demonstrating how a president should act in times like this.

Biden knows a thing or two about grief, having dealt with the deaths of his wife and young daughter in a 1972 car accident and the cancer death of his adult son in 2015.

“To all of you hurting so badly, I’m so sorry for your loss,” he says in the video. “This nation grieves with you.”

Evoking the sense of loss he’s had to deal with, Biden added “I think I know what you’re feeling,” The American Independent reports.

“You feel like you’re being sucked into a black hole in the middle of your chest,” the former Vice President said. “It’s suffocating.”

In the video posted below, Biden’s words are warm and empathetic, especially when compared to Trump who has shown little concern for the mounting death toll and was instead busily rage-tweeting about the social media giant’s fact-checking one of his tweets.

Trump was in Florida to attend a space launch that was subsequently scuppered by bad weather and didn’t remark on the milestone during his return to Washington. The White House did issue a statement however, saying:

“President Trump’s prayers for comfort and strength are with all of those grieving the loss of a loved one or friend as a result of this unprecedented plague, and his message to this great nation remains one of resilience, hope, and optimism.”

“The American people have always been strong and resilient, and the President is proud of their spirit, courage, and determination every single day to defeat this virus,” White House spokesman Judd Deere said in the statement.

More than 5.6 million cases of the virus have been reported, and chances are the death toll in the U.S. is likely higher because many people haven’t been tested and people can become infected and show no symptoms. Worldwide, more than 350,000 people have died from the virus, with the U.S. leading, having reached 100,000 deaths in less than four months.

Biden has criticized Trump for months for his inaction, noting that this has driven the U.S. death toll for no good reason whatsoever. He doesn’t refer to Trump by name in the video but references the White House by saying the tragedy has been “made all the worse knowing that this is a fateful milestone we should have never reached that could have been avoided.”

He commiserated with those who are grieving.

“I can promise you from personal experience,” he said reiterating a sentiment he’d mentioned earlier, “the day will come when the memory of your loved one will bring a smile to your lips before it brings a tear to your eyes.”

“For all of you who are hurting so badly, I’m so sorry for your loss,” he said. “This nation grieves with you. Take some solace from the fact we all grieve with you.”

Ask yourself where we’d be right now if Trump had taken this deadly virus seriously, instead of claiming it’s a hoax and rage-tweeting his hurt feelings real or imagined. Then ask yourself what Trump will do if he’s re-elected and another pandemic happens? Do you really want that to happen?
