During a press conference Tuesday, a reporter informed President Donald Trump that the U.S. is leading the world in confirmed coronavirus cases and wanted him to comment on that.
So he responded by saying he considers this a “badge of honor” because it must mean a lot of tests are being done. It’s anyone’s guess how Trump could possibly think more than [1] 1.5 million cases, resulting in more than 93,000 deaths in the U.S. is a good thing, but that’s Trump for you.
And the fur flew on the social media immediately after that, with more than a few Twitter users suggesting this could be a killer attack ad for former Vice President Joe Biden in the fall, Raw Story reports. Trump has been repeatedly misfiring with all sorts of nutty ideas regarding coronavirus, including admitting [2] he takes the controversial and potentially dangerous drug hydroxychloroquine. More than a few studies [3] have suggested this drug is ineffective against the harm caused by COVID-19.
Rather than fighting the further spread of this devastating pandemic, Trump seems intent on fostering it, even cluelessly claiming the U.S. is going to “win very big” over the pandemic, even though nearly [3] 100,000 Americans have died from COVID-19.
His equally clueless comments that the skyrocketing numbers in the U.S. are somehow a “badge of honor” stirred up intense feelings on social media because pretty much everyone else in the U.S. understands this catastrophic death toll is nothing to be proud of. Those of us who have chronic illnesses would prefer not to wear this “badge,” and neither would the elderly, who are especially prone to the effects of this devastating disease.
Trump is so self-absorbed that all of this is probably lost on him, so the Twitterati set him straight with some pretty astute knee-slappers that may well hit him where it hurts. And deservedly so.
Here’s how ignorant & dishonest Trump is:
So the US has the most confirmed cases in the world, and Trump says: “It’s a badge of honor. We’re doing a great job.” If the US had the fewest confirmed cases in the world, Trump would say THE EXACT SAME THING. https://t.co/YABtw8syxp [4]

Like saying it’s a ‘badge of honor that they have the highest number of paedophilles because it means adults are giving kids attention.’ The arsehole is totally fucking deranged. https://t.co/OY8B7hHmGd [9]

What a crackhead he is. More than 90,000 people de@d, so it’s a badge of honor for him? https://t.co/gShFtBLSuU [13]

92,000 dead–badge of honor, from a draft dodging, serial sexual assaulter, tax cheat, adulterer, charity abuser, promoter of pyramid schemes. Fucker wouldn't know honor if it hit him in the face.

“When I see all the horses that escaped the barn, I look at it as a badge of honor because it’s a reminder that we eventually closed the doors.”

I watched "Joker" and immediately after tuned in to the end of Trump's cabinet meeting broadcast. Trump talked about wearing the pandemic deaths as a "badge of honor".
Trump appeared psychotic. Hard to tell where the movie left off and reality began.— Brendan Buschi (@bfbuschi) May 19, 2020 [17]
Trump said today that the rise in U.S. cases of coronavirus is a “badge of honor.“ He can’t view this pandemic in any other terms except how it makes him look. The only person he cares about is himself. pic.twitter.com/rAHBLIwsW1 [18]
