TX Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick: You Can’t Fix Racism ‘Unless You Accept Jesus Christ’

Some people try to hide their ignorance on race-related issues, but Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick seems to want to hang it out there for all the world to see. Like so many of the foolish before him, he’s blaming racism on the lack of God in schools.

And it’s not the first time he’s beat that dead horse, having once complained that a school shooting happened because “we won’t let our kids even pray in our schools.” Welp, kids can pray in schools, actually. It’s just not legal to force prayer on kids in school, Friendly Atheist notes.

But he’s also used his religiosity to slam LGBTQ people. In one particular instance, right after the cruel Pulse Nightclub massacre he tweeted a Bible verse that said “God cannot be mocked” and that “a man reaps what he sows.” He deleted that tweet and claimed the timing was merely a coincidence.

Yeah, sure. And water flows uphill.

And while he was being interviewed by Shannon Bream on Fox News Thursday night, he inadvertently showcased his ignorance all over again.

“It’s terrible, Shannon, and I think there are a lot of people speaking up now that are creating real distractions and undermining what we’re all trying to do in this country,” Patrick said. “And Shannon, for me, as I look at this and it breaks my heart, what I’m saying from the original crime that was committed by the police officer on George Floyd to what’s happening in our streets, that we have racism in this country, Shannon. But it’s really an issue of love.”

“It’s loving God… You cannot love your fellow man if you don’t love God, and we have a country where we’ve been working really hard, particularly on the left, to kick God out,” he added. “We need a culture change to address this racism. You cannot change the culture of a country until you change the character of mankind. And you can’t change that unless you change a heart. And for millions of us on the planet, we believe you can’t do that unless you accept Jesus Christ or unless you accept God. And God has been left out of the equation through all of this.”

But anyone who needs God in order to love their fellow man isn’t really loving their fellow man. They’re drinking the Kool-Aid that somehow they need God in order to love someone. And Patrick forgets that school-sponsored prayer was a thing until it was prohibited in 1962 when the Supreme Court found it violated the First Amendment. Meanwhile, all during that time, segregation was widespread in much of the U.S. We’ve had 200-plus years of Christianity in this country, right alongside slavery.

Patrick is preaching to the choir, but he’s really, really off-key.
