Brewery Cancels Lara Trump Event Because Trump Campaign Misled the Owners

A campaign event at a local brewery in Freeport, Maine, for President Donald Trump to be headlined by his daughter-in-law has been canceled after the bar’s owner said the campaign misled him about the scope of the event.

Brad and Nancy Nadeau, the owners of Stars and Stripes Brewing, contacted the Bangor Daily News [1] after an article published Monday cited a release from the Trump campaign that noted the brewery would be the first stop for the “Women For Trump” bus tour Wednesday. The tour is scheduled to wrap it up Thursday in New Hampshire.

The couple said they were told Tuesday that some campaign members were going to stop at the brewery for a beer while ordering pizza at a nearby eatery. Brad Nadeau also said he was told that Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law would be there, as would some members of the media. He also said he didn’t know it was going to be a formal event.

The Nadeaus apparently found everything out the hard way, after their brewery showed up in online Trump event listings. The couple subsequently was deluged with negative comments as news of the event spread. Spokespersons for the Trump campaign in Maine didn’t respond to requests for comment but Brad Nadeau said he contacted the campaign and canceled the event Tuesday morning. He also maintained that the brewery doesn’t host political events or endorse candidates.

Which begs the question: why did they initially okay this event if that’s the case. Maybe they didn’t like the negative comments. But I digress.

Brad Nadeau, an Iraqi war vet, said the brewery hosts fundraisers for a variety of causes, including veterans groups. He added that his brewery isn’t “anti-Trump” or “anti-anything,” and isn’t involved in politics.

“I tried so hard to keep this brewery positive, and we haven’t had any backlash because we don’t do anything that’s negative,” he said. “But when it comes to politics, people are so far on either side.”

It’s not clear whether the Maine event featuring Lara Trump and other high-profile Trump advisers, including Mercedes Schlapp, [2] Katrina Pierson, [3] and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, [4] will be moved to another location.
