Hundreds of Former George W. Bush Officials Call Trump ‘a Danger’ in Stinging Biden Endorsement

The momentum is really building now to get Donald Trump out of office.

There is an increasing sense of urgency due to the revelations concerning Russian bounties on US service members. The bounty scandal seems to indicate that we have a president who either puts his relationship with Putin ahead of the lives of US troops or is so stupid and paranoid that he won’t believe a thing issued by his intelligence community (except the things he wants to hear). It is one or the other.

A group of ex-George W. Bush administration officials has formed a PAC to get Joe Biden elected and Trump out of office according to USA Today:

Former officials from George W. Bush administration and campaign launched a super PAC in support of presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden, declaring they “knew it was time to take a stand.”

The group of at least 200 former officials, aides and Cabinet secretaries formed 43 Alumni for Biden to block President Donald Trump from winning a second term, arguing on its website that “democracy is at stake” and there have been “far too many days filled with chaos emanating from the highest levels of government.” The group is not directly affiliated with Bush.

“Our mission is clear, to elect Joe Biden as the next President of the United States. Through our advocacy, 43 Alumni for Biden seeks to unite and mobilize a community of historically Republican voters who are dismayed and disappointed by the damage done to our nation by Donald Trump’s presidency.”

The key there is the “historically Republican voters.” This group is doing something that traditional Democratic groups, or the Biden campaign itself, might have a tough time doing, getting Republican voter information and putting the materials and plea for votes in their hands. It also gives the average Republican voter a bit of security knowing that they’re not the only one deeply alarmed by Trump, and more apt to do the right thing and vote for the Democrat.

Many of us progressives lament the centrist element to the Biden campaign. Joe is perhaps the last man in America who believes it is possible to work across party lines, and that can be infuriating. However, the upside is that we Democrats enjoy the support of a far wider group than had we picked an ultra-progressive candidate. In the end, nothing matters until Trump is out of office.

These are good allies to have.
