It is getting a bit sad, actually. It is never good to see family fighting like this, it is especially bad when the fight is so public, and it is kind of heartbreaking to know that it involves a 15-year-old girl, albeit an extremely mature and headstrong one, but still, a kid. Claudia Conway is fighting it out, primarily with mom, but neither of her parents are particularly happy. No parent can really blame them.

Claudia had been posting progressive, anti-Trump messages on Tiktok, which then progressed to Twitter. The messages resulted in an interview with Insider, according to Complex:

“I grew up in a very, very conservative family, so I was only exposed to those views for a very long time. I decided to educate myself and think for myself,” Claudia told Insider earlier this week.”… I’m still a kid, of course. I took the time to educate myself and took the time to branch out and be exposed to other sides and other biases and whatnot. We do get into arguments a lot — I’m not going to lie.”

That got dad angry:

To journalists: @kellyannepolls and I do *not* consent to any communications between you and any of our minor children, including our daughter Claudia. So desist.

And that got Claudia angry.

She wrote:

Now that is ugly.

But that is what young teens do. When they’re hurt, they lash out and say things they don’t really mean, stuff intended to hurt, stuff they’ll really want to take back in a day or two, or a year or two, or at least have had the option of never saying it. Not a single reader here would like to have had their worst reactions to family issues at age 15 published for the world to see.

Claudia got away from commenting on mom and dad’s relationship, which is good because if anything Trump ended things, no one sane would want to be around Kellyanne’s bizarre defense of the indefensible. Regardless, Claudia started defending her right to speak at all.

Then they started fighting on what appears to be Instagram Live:

Impossibly, we are going to side with Mom on this one tiny thing. Claudia is now a huge media presence with tens of thousands of followers, and she’s made some bold political statements. There are a lot of sick men in the world, and she has put herself in some danger – she is just a kid, in an adult body. And she’s making a lot of people angry with her progressive views.

Mom and Dad are right to shut the phone off when they aren’t there to oversee what she’s putting out into the world. Claudia has the rest of her life to be her own woman, and make her own mistakes. She has but three years left to be a kid, and it is probably best she get back to being that precocious and free-thinking wonderful girl. Just do that thinking and communicating a bit more safely, and a bit more tempered, with the realization that the net never forgets.
