Trump Wants Americans to Live With His Coronavirus Failures and ‘Grow Numb’ to ‘Escalating Death Toll’

As coronavirus cases proliferate across the U.S. and deaths due to COVID-19 continue to escalate, reports allege White House officials are hoping Americans will simply see this as the new normal and become inured to it.

President Trump’s advisers are trying to put a new spin on this, in the hopes of convincing Americans “that they can live with the virus,” The Week reports. Administration officials are also hoping “Americans will grow numb to the escalating death toll and learn to accept tens of thousands of new cases a day, The Washington Post reports. One senior White House official reportedly said Americans will have to “live with the virus being a threat,” while a former official told the Post “they’re of the belief that people will get over it or if we stop highlighting it, the base will move on and the public will learn to accept 50,000 to 100,000 new cases a day.”

And Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has already warned the U.S. may soon reach 100,000 cases per day and that the final death toll will “be very disturbing.” As it stands, more than 130,000 Americans have died and cases have been escalating, setting new records daily.

NBC News is also reporting that the White House is already trying to get people used to this new reality regarding COVID-19 by saying the U.S. “must learn to live with it.”

So now we have to live with something that’s been completely enabled by Trump’s poor handling of this deadly situation. We have people quarantining in their homes, without work, or any way of earning a steady income. We have people with chronic illnesses having to worry that if they becoming sick, it may be the last time they do. We are now forced to self-distance and wear masks and worry when we are confronted by fools who refuse to wear them.

This is what Trump has wrought. He’s undermined Fauci’s attempts to inform the public and he continues to call for states to reopen when it clearly isn’t safe to do so. He’s completely clueless about the science regarding the pandemic and has openly discouraged people from wearing masks, and his only answer to this is to say testing needs to be slowed down.

And Americans seem to steadily be losing confidence in this man (let’s hope so anyway.) Bloomberg reported Monday that support for the president “is slipping fastest in the 500 counties where the number of cases has been more than 28 coronavirus deaths per 100,000 people.”

This isn’t lost on former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign team, which is hitting Trump where it hurts. And the team plans to keep this up, and as one adviser told the Post, “the country would be in a much different place today … if Joe Biden had been the president in January.”

Along with the massive number of deaths, who knows how many people have been permanently disabled and made homeless because of this? All of that is on Trump and it’s the biggest reason he should lose in November.
