Bandy Lee, the Yale psychiatrist and renowned expert on public health vis-à-vis psychiatry is absolutely fearless. She will not back down from some of the criticism she’s received. Indeed as the campaigns heat up, she is stepping up, to provide Americans a more specialized breakdown as to Trump’s health issues and what they mean for regular Americans.

Our friends at Meidas Touch – whom we’re not partnering with, we just like each others’ work – are giving Bandy Lee her own platform for her to explain why Trump presents a unique danger, including what may be going on within his head.

We mentioned fearless, yes?

Going against the medical community’s usual conservative bent when it comes to public statements, and the psychiatric community in particular, Lee cites an ethical duty set out by the American psychiatric association, one portion of which expressly states that they have an express duty to protect society as the basis for coming forward. Even though that duty is generally done working with their own dangerous patient, it can’t be so limited when signs are identified in public and especially in someone with decision-making authority that impacts us all.

Indeed, we’ve often wondered why the psychiatric community is so insistent upon “interviewing the patient” when any psychiatrist would get a clearer picture – at least with respect to dangerous behaviors – by observing the patient out among the public. A patient can lie, while video and recorded statements can’t.

Ummm, that is something we very much look forward to. I am sure Dr. Lee will temper her observations and specifically talk about the limits of what she can determine without speaking to Trump and knowing his medical history, such as medications, and physical health.

But this is critical information. A campaign is essentially a job interview to determine who is head of the United States military, which just happens to be the most destructive force ever to grace the earth, should it be let loose. The president also has a role to play when global pandemics are set loose in the American public.

It seems that any information is helpful. She can’t force anyone to believe her. It is just more information to take in and give consideration.
