So what is it going to take before the GOP starts to take this entire thing with the seriousness it deserves? Do members of Congress have to start getting sick and dying themselves? Now we have Louis Gohmert perhaps playing the role of typhoid mary:
Rep. Raúl Grijalva has tested positive for COVID-19 after a week in Washington, D.C., that included a hearing with Rep. Louie Gohmert, who also tested positive in recent days.
Grijalva, D-Ariz., is asymptomatic and in self-quarantine at his residence in the Washington area, his spokesman, Geoff Nolan, said. He is the first known member of Arizona’s congressional delegation to have tested positive after at least several close calls.
If Gohmert to Grijalva sick by refusing to wear a mask – and even days ago asserting it must have been a mask (what mask?) that got him sick – that is in itself a sick revelation. We are not willing to start trading congressman with the Republicans – even those that don’t get very sick, or even pass away – from the sheer standpoint of votes that might get missed due to isolating.
Grijalva went into self-quarantine and was tested as a precaution, Nolan said. On Friday, the attending physician of the Capitol told Grijalva he was positive, too. “While I cannot blame anyone directly for this, this week has shown that there are some Members of Congress who fail to take this crisis seriously,” Grijalva said in a written statement Saturday.
He cannot blame anyone individually for coming into contact with the disease, but he can blame the entire GOP and Trump for allowing the disease to get into this country and then spreading like wildfire.
I have tested positive for COVID-19.
As a result, I will be self-isolating in quarantine. I currently have no symptoms, feel fine, and hope to make a quick & speedy recovery.
COVID-19 is not a joke & we should all take this seriously.
