Republican WW II Veteran Regrets Voting for Trump and Wants Him Gone: ‘He’s the Worst President We’ve Ever Had’

For as long as he can remember, 95-year-old WWII veteran Edward Good has voted Republican. But that’s about to change, he told the audience at the Democratic National Convention Thursday evening. He supported Trump in 2016 but now regrets this and said he believes Donald Trump is the “worst” president the U.S. has ever had.

Good had plenty of praise for Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden as he spoke, saying the candidate “cares about doing a proper duty towards the United States, and if he’s elected that’s what he will do,” The Independent [1] reports.

“I am 95 years old,” he said. “I’m a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. I have been a Republican, since the 1960s. I’m a member of the NRA and voted for Trump.”

Then he voiced his disappointment, echoing what many of us have long been thinking.

“I think Trump has been the worst president we’ve ever had,” Good said. “So I’ll be glad to see him go.”

His virtual speech was followed by Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth (D), who noted “Donald Trump doesn’t deserve to call himself commander-in-chief for another four minutes — let alone another four years.”

Duckworth, who earned the Purple Heart after losing both legs in a helicopter crash in Iraq, is right. It’s way past time for Trump to leave and most of us will not miss him when he does. The senator maintained that Biden understands the sacrifices of war, having lost his son Beau, who served as a member of the National Guard. Cancer claimed Beau’s life in 2015.

“That’s the kind of leader our service members deserve: a leader who would actually honor their sacrifices,” Duckworth said. “But they don’t have that in our current commander-in-chief, who’s either unwilling or incapable of doing so.”

A number of notable Republicans, including former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, endorsed Biden during the convention. And former Ohio Governor John Kasich, a Republican who ran unsuccessfully for president during the 2016 election outlined his reasons for endorsing Biden.

“I’m a life-long Republican, but that attachment holds second place to my responsibility to my country,” he said during the live-streamed convention. “We’re being taken down the wrong road by a president who has pitted one against the other.”

“Joe Biden,” he added, “is a man for our times, times that call for us to take off our partisan hats.”

I rarely agree with Kasich because he has a poor record regarding women’s rights [2] but he has a point here. It’s time to shout down the Trump supporters and vote Trump out of office.
