Trump Openly Endorses Extrajudicial Killings of Suspects by Law Enforcement, ‘That’s the Way It Has to Be!’

We have already seen too many Trump supporters take it upon themselves to unleash violence. Many of us are terrified about what might be coming in November, should Trump end up losing. We are walking a fine line in this country and that includes some danger from radicals on all sides. But Trump is now inciting the very panic that he says he tried to quell.

Last night Judge Jeanine ran an interview with Donald Trump and Trump went to his favorite topic, the need to put down all protests. But unlike his expressed views on COVID, Trump isn’t interested in putting down protests by asking everyone to come together and calmly look at the problems. Instead, he endorsed extra-judicial killings and thereby inciting the lone wolf radicals – on any side – to do the very thing he says he’s against. He says “that’s the way it has to be” about a killing in Oregon.

Obviously, we don’t believe that when real law-enforcement comes under attack that they don’t have the right to defend themselves. Of course, they do and should. But too often it isn’t clear whether the attack really did require killing someone and too often, far too often, we’ve seen police kill when it wasn’t necessary. Trump seems to want to invite this type of violence:

“This guy was a violent criminal, and the US Marshals killed him. And I’ll tell you something — that’s the way it has to be. There has to be retribution.”

Let’s be perfectly clear as to what Trump is calling for. “Retribution” is not self-defense. Indeed it is the exact opposite of self-defense, it is punishment. According to Google:

Retribution: punishment inflicted on someone as vengeance for a wrong or criminal act. “employees asked not to be named, saying they feared retribution”

Vengeance. That is what Trump asked for, vengeance. It is the opposite of “calm,” it is asking for chaos and for law-enforcement to “punish” the people who protest. Self-defense is legitimate and must be done. Vengeance is not.
