One way to win an election is to simply say that the person running against you isn’t qualified to run and issue an executive order disqualifying that person from the race. The end. If that sounds awfully fascist or dictatorial, if it sounds like it defeats the purpose of having an election, then you might just be catching up to the type of country Trump longs to have. After all, Russia has elections, too. They just don’t mean a damned thing because the guy who is already president has it all rigged so that he’ll always “win.”
Trump likes that guy, Putin, and that country – Russia. So maybe we should pay a little closer attention when Trump says stupid stuff about disqualifying Joe Biden. Yes, you heard that right. Trump said he might disqualify Biden.
Donald Trump spoke in Fayetteville, North Carolina, last night and told the assembled MAGA heads that he might sign an executive order disqualifying Biden from running as his opponent.
“We can joke, we can play games, we can have fun. You can’t have this guy as your president,” Trump said. “You can’t have — maybe I’ll sign an executive order, you cannot have him as your president.”
Maybe Trump will be taken away in a straight jacket. Maybe Trump will be put in prison. On one thing there’s no “maybe,” having seen what Trump and McConnell are willing to do with respect to reversing what everyone presumed to be “normal” and promising to seat a SCOTUS justice in a couple of weeks, we take everything he says damned seriously. What choice does one have?
After the stunts they’ve pulled? Why the hell would we ever take anything he said as a joke?
Just because it’s illegal and unconstitutional, doesn’t mean he won’t do it. Watch him carefully.
