President Donald is dangling a $200 carrot in front of voters as Election Day nears, promising he’ll be mailing that amount to 33 million Medicare beneficiaries in the next few weeks, Newsweek reports.

Speaking to supporters about his healthcare policies in Charlotte, North Carolina, Trump revealed a “historic provision to benefit our great seniors” as part of his America First Healthcare Plan.

“Under my plan, 33 million Medicare beneficiaries will soon receive a card in the mail containing $200 that they can use that they can use to help pay for prescription drugs,” Trump said with his usual gee-whiz bragging. “Nobody’s seen this before. The cards will be mailed out in the coming weeks. I will always take care of our wonderful senior citizens. Joe Biden won’t be doing this.”

When you consider the fact that Louis DeJoy is still the postmaster general and CEO of the U.S. Postal Service, you can assume those checks will arrive sometime between now and the end of time.

But I digress.

Trump, perhaps feeling concerned that his presidency may be in its final days, has cooked up the healthcare policy that’s supposed to assist senior citizens with their prescription drug copays. The plan will supposedly go forward without a nod from Congress thanks to a Medicare demonstration program. Trump also signed two executive orders to implement his healthcare plan.

With, of course, his usual braggadocio.

“Under the America First Healthcare Plan, we will ensure the highest standard of care anywhere in the world, cutting edge treatment, state of the art medicine, groundbreaking cures, and true health security for you and your loved ones,” he said. “And we will do it rapidly, and it’s in very good order, and some of it has already been implemented.”

So this leaves me with one question: Couldn’t Trump have done this from the beginning? He’s waiting until now when the election is imminent amidst a pandemic that has killed more than 208,000 Americans, many of them those “wonderful senior citizens” he all of a sudden cares so much about?
