Jared Kushner Faces Strong Backlash After Implying That Black People are Lazy

Jared Kushner has found himself in hot water after an appearance Monday on Fox & Friends where he said President Donald Trump’s policies would help the Black community but said it in such a way that it appeared he was implying Black people don’t “want to be successful.”

“One thing we’ve seen a lot of in the Black community, which is mostly Democrat, is that President Trump’s policies are the policies that can help people break out of the problems that they’re complaining about,” Kushner said, per The Independent, “but he can’t want them to be successful more than they want to be successful.”

Understandably, this absurd remark is causing considerable outrage, as it should. Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, has never struggled to put food on the table or faced hatred because of the color of his skin; an attitude still present and perpetuated by Trump on an almost daily basis. But here he is, seeming to dismiss the work ethics of Black Americans and people are understandably upset by his cavalier attitude.

“This blatant DISRESPECT shows he has NO understanding of the Black community,” Ben Crump, a civil rights attorney who is representing the family of Breonna Taylor, noted on Twitter.

Other Twitter users were equally angry.

Then of course it was White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany to the rescue by claiming Kushner’s comments were taken out of context.

“It’s disgusting to see internet trolls taking Senior Adviser Jared Kushner out of context as they try to distract from President Trump’s undeniable record of accomplishment for the Black community,” she said in a statement to The Hill.

Again I ask, where’s that laugh emoticon when you need it? After all, wasn’t it just last week during the Town Hall, that Trump said he has “done more for the Black community than any president with the exception of Abraham Lincoln?”

Vox notes Trump’s purported efforts to help the Black community have been less than stellar. He likes to take credit for the downturn in violent crime but fails to note this downward trend began years before he became president. It’s been on a downward trend for at least 30 years.

Trump has some pretty big shoes to fill if he wants to do more than Lincoln. Ulysses S. Grant founded the Justice Department and advocated for the prosecution of the Ku Klux Klan. Harry S. Truman desegregated the military, Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law The Civil Rights Act, the Fair Housing Act, and the Voting Rights Act, just to name a few.

And of course, Trump has been fighting to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, probably because his predecessor Barack Obama, signed it into law. This measure helped close some of the disparities in healthcare in the U.S. but we all know how much he loves Obama. Which is to say he doesn’t love him.

But none of these things are of any significance to Kushner, who, like his father-in-law, is the son of a real estate magnate. Neither of these two has done anything worthwhile towards helping the African-American community as it continues to kill a disproportionate number of Black people and as more Black people lose their jobs.

When he noted that Blacks tend to support more Democratic Party, he also said “Unlike most politicians who’ve been in Washington for decades who talk and say all the right things, President Trump may not always say the right things, but he does the right things.”

I still need that laugh emoticon.
