Melania Finally Speaks at Her Husband’s Rally and Tells a Whopper of a Lie About Healthcare

As president, Donald Trump has done everything he can to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and completely mishandled the novel coronavirus pandemic. But that’s not how First Lady Melania Trump portrayed the situation at a Florida rally Thursday, according to CNN. [1]

This is the first 2020 campaign event in which Melania has appeared alongside her husband and she told the audience that “healthcare for every citizen remains a priority for him, and as you have seen over these past years, he won’t stop until he gets it done.”

That’s a nice fantasy, but in reality, Trump has made every effort to dismantle the Affordable Care Act during his presidency, pledging in 2016 that he would repeal the measure that’s provided healthcare to millions of Americans, offered protections to those of us with pre-existing conditions and provided free preventive health care.

His administration has taken this to the Supreme Court yet hasn’t released [2] a comprehensive plan to replace it, CNN reports.

If the court dismantles Obamacare, the U.S. healthcare system and tens of millions of Americans will suffer severe consequences. This includes roughly 20 million Americans who are covered by the ACA via exchanges and through Medicaid, which was expanded to meet the needs of low-income adults. Not only that, this law allows parents to keep their kids on their healthcare plans until the age of 26 and provides free mammograms, cholesterol checks, and birth control.

The provision that provides help for those with pre-existing conditions is especially popular. It bars insurers from denying coverage or charging higher premiums based on a person’s health history. And as part of what his so-called healthcare “vision” Trump signed [3] an executive order in September that claims it is U.S. policy to protect those of us with pre-existing conditions.

That provision, however, will mean exactly nothing if Congress hasn’t introduced legislation to replace the ACA if it’s repealed. This law also protects the literally millions of people who have lost their job-based health coverage as layoffs continue due to the pandemic.

But struggling of this magnitude is simply not in Melania Trump’s purview. In her swing-state speech as the election looms, she’s focusing on his so-called accomplishments and reiterating his campaign themes.

“For those of you still deciding who to vote for on Tuesday, I hope what I have to say will prove to you that a vote for Donald Trump is a vote for a better America,” she said.

She chided people who are playing politics with a potential coronavirus vaccine, as her audience, most of whom were neither wearing masks nor practicing social distancing, looked on.

“A vaccine is not a partisan issue,” she said. “If you are not supporting the safe production of a vaccine, you’re not supporting the health of the American people. There is no room to play politics on this topic in the midst of [a] pandemic.”

Maybe she should tell her husband that. Since this is what he’s doing.

“On Tuesday, the direction of our country will take is in your own hands,” she told the audience. “I ask you to join us in continuing to put America first. Together we will overcome this pandemic and continue building the brightest future for generations to come.”

We can all make that happen by voting her husband out of office on Tuesday. Just sayin.’
