Trump Campaign is Accusing Gov. Whitmer of ‘Encouraging Assassination’ of Trump — Because of a Sign on Her Desk

You have heard the story. Two weeks ago, the FBI working alongside the Michigan State Police busted-up, just in time, a very sophisticated plot to kidnap Governor Whitmer, put her on trial, and … well, deliver the punishment befitting the verdict. It is a horrifying story that says a great deal about where this country stands right now given that Gretchen Whitmer, pound for pound is as good as any governor out there. Perhaps that’s the problem. Trump doesn’t like “Good Democratic governors,” especially attractive women he cannot intimidate.

Team Trump has some real evidence to back up their theory, too. Trumpian evidence, the type that you have to be a paranoid freakshow to believe: From Newsweek:

Trump’s campaign, which uses the handle “Trump War Room” on Twitter, based its allegations against Whitmer on a token with the numbers “8645” clearly visible. The token appeared behind her during an interview with NBC News host Chuck Todd on Meet the Press Sunday morning.

“Governor Gretchen Whitmer displayed an ’86 45′ sign during her TV appearance. 86 can be shorthand for killing someone,” the Trump campaign tweeted, alongside a screenshot from the governor’s interview. “Whitmer is encouraging assassination attempts against President Trump just weeks after someone sent a ricin-laced package to the White House.”

Oh fck-off.

“Eighty-Six” is usually shorthand for “get rid” of the guy. Meaning “Eighty-six the 45th president” – as in “vote him out.” But of course, the Trump war room had to say something because just a week after this militia was arrested for plotting the kidnapping of Whitmer, Trump was leading the chant of “lock her up” – and, according to the Trump organization, just having fun with it.

The Trump war room does know that those are some of the most sought-after license plates in America right now, correct? Are all of them going to be looked into for encouraging Trump’s assassination? Trump has a lot of nerve accusing someone else of stochastic terrorism.

The campaign referenced a parcel containing ricin—a poison derived from castor beans that can cause internal injury—which was addressed to the White House and intercepted an an offsite mail processing facility in September. If ricin poisoning is left untreated, its effects can be fatal.

What the campaign failed to mention is that something like this is found about twice a month (we are guessing) and is why all mail to the White House is processed off-campus and tested.

As we said, this is a very well established “thing” among people trying to get Trump out of office:

The ‘8645’ symbol seen in the background of Whitmer’s Meets the Press interview appeared to show support for a movement opposing Trump’s reelection next month—as several Twitter users pointed out Sunday in response to the Trump campaign’s accusation.

Even “we” know of the numbers’ meaning, a sure sign that there’s been penetration into the social landscape and it means nothing beyond “vote his ass out.” But hey, they will be the first to complain, while Trump claps as crowds chant “lock her up” just two weeks after a group tried to do it all on their own, “privately.”
