Election 2020

Howard Stern Tells Trump to Tell His ‘Loony Hillbilly Friends’ That He’s Lost and the Election is Over

Howard Stern, the nation’s highest-paid radio host knows a thing or two about running a network, and he has a message for President Donald Trump, who is purportedly considering launching his own news network when his presidency ends.

His message? Don’t do it.

Stern says he believes that venture will fail, just as all Trump’s other businesses have failed, New York Daily News reports. On his show Monday, Stern said he finds the idea of Trump trying to run his own network laughable. He said he also wants Trump to stop inciting his “loony hillbilly” followers into a frenzy with baseless conspiracy theory claims about election fraud.

“For the good of the country, calm your f**king loony hillbilly friends and tell them you lost the election and you’re going to help the transition,” Stern said. “These loonies who follow you are all worked up; they think something was taken from you.”

Stern and his co-host Robin Quivers discussed Trump’s recent attacks on Fox News, a network that has continually supported Trump. Until it called the election for President-elect Joe Biden and thus enraging Trump.

“The president all weekend was busy tweeting about Fox News,” Stern said. “He’s mad at them because they actually had some reality over there and now he’s talking about… the OANN, which I’ve never seen, actually. I don’t know how you get it.”

Ever since losing the November 3 election, Trump has repeatedly claimed without any credible evidence that he lost due to voter fraud. He’s also attacked Fox News personalities who haven’t jumped in to defend him by doing things like claiming the network’s daytime and weekend ratings have plummeted. As per usual for Trump, these claims are mostly fiction.

But if he thinks he’s going to succeed at this, Stern has news for him, The Daily Mail reports.

“[If] he thinks running a country is hard, wait till he has to run a news network,” Stern said during his Sirius XM program. “That’ll fail inside a year like all the other businesses. This is just insanity what’s going on.”

At one point the discussion shifted to OANN (One America News Network), with Quivers describing it as a “doozy” that fawns over Trump and boosts his ego. Stern mentioned he wasn’t familiar with the network. He said he has, however, seen reports that Trump is considering starting a news channel — one where he’d have complete control over stories.

While Trump hasn’t really spoken about this, The Wall Street Journal reports that one investment firm, Hicks Equity Partners, which has connections to the Republican National Convention is apparently considering a move to acquire and invest in the notoriously right-wing network Newsmax.

Newsmax is based in the heart of Trumpland — otherwise known as West Palm Beach, Florida, and while CEO Christopher Ruddy said he isn’t looking to sell the agency, he also added it would “never become Trump TV.”

He did add that the agency would “be open” to giving Trump his own weekly show after he leaves office on January 20.

“He’s going to be a political and media force after he leaves the White House,” Ruddy said.

While Trump is considering starting his own network, it’s worth noting that he’s declared at least six bankruptcies and over the next several years faces payment deadlines of more than $400 million in loans and is smack in the middle of a tax dispute with the IRS stemming from a $72.9 million tax refund he claimed in 2010. If the IRS determines he’s liable for that he may wind up owing the U.S. government at least $100 million.

But that’s not all. Now that he’s a lame-duck president, he faces a fusillade of legal problems when he leaves the White House and Biden has already said he will not pardon Trump.

No wonder Trump doesn’t want to leave. His future indeed looks pretty bleak. It’s all his doing and it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
