Maria Bartiromo took her show and her interview with Donald Trump into territory few would tread. It is not just that she is fully partisan. That is expected on many channels, including MSNBC shows, or at least the op-ed shows. We have not watched Bartiroma’s show enough to know whether she attempts to come across as straight news or whether it’s editorialized – akin to Nicolle Wallace – as a format. Regardless, partisanship isn’t the problem.

The two-fold problem is that she allowed Trump to ramble on about a subject that courts have deemed to be “without evidence” or “wild summations” and thrown out upon being filed. They have never brought forth any evidence of a tampered or unfair election. She simply took what was said and didn’t challenge any assertion despite the fact that Trump’s team has never actually produced any proof of any of these accusations. Judges are tired of it.

But even more problematic was her summation that clearly Biden could not possibly have gotten more black votes than Barack Obama, which is a ridiculous statement in and of itself. But it is also clearly wrong. More people voted in this election than any previous election. Allowing people to vote by mail is easier than forcing everyone to the polls on one day. It is reasonable to expect more people voting for either side given the ease. It is also irresponsible to not consider the fact that Trump inflamed racial matters all summer and it shouldn’t be a surprise that the black vote was considerably higher for Biden. But even so, more black people (as a total number and percentage) voted for Trump than in the last election. It is a function of having more voters total. But Baritromo was having none of it, she knows the score.

Trump also repeatedly claimed that Biden could not have won more votes than former President Barack Obama, citing this hunch as evidence the election was rigged.

“We won the election easily. There’s not way Joe Biden got 80 million votes. There’s no way Joe Biden beat Barack Obama in the Black communities of various cities,” Trump said. “This election was a fraud. It was a rigged election.”

“This is disgusting!” Bartiromo exclaimed in response. “And we cannot allow America’s election to be corrupted.”

The above is a product of Trump’s narcissistic injury needing assuaging, he cannot take the thought of a loss. When Cruz beat him in the Iowa primary, Trump said it was rigged. This is to be expected. Now he’s putting the country through grievous injury to its faith in elections and democracy generally. Baritiromo is right there with him. “This is disgusting!”
