Ashley Biden Confirms Melania Trump Snubbed Her Mother for Traditional White House Handover

President-elect Joe Biden’s daughter Ashley said she’s “worried” about her dad’s safety during tomorrow’s inauguration in the wake of the “horrifying” pro-Trump riots at the Capitol earlier this month. She voiced her concerns during her first televised interview and also noted her mother, Jill Biden hasn’t been contacted by Melania Trump, who is apparently skipping “traditional protocols” and that, she said is “unfortunate.”

With less than 24 hours to go before Biden, 78 becomes president, Ashley, 39, expressed her worries about the safety of the event, telling former First Daughter and Today host Jenna Hager Bush, “I think anybody you love who is being threatened or… yes, you worry.”

But the younger Biden expressed some confidence because she knows the Secret Service is “incredible” and added, “He has so much protection, so in that way, I don’t [worry],” MailOnline reports.

The stress surrounding the handing over of the presidential reigns is palpable, especially in the wake of the riots led by MAGA protesters that led to the deaths of several people, including two Capitol police officers, and for Ashley Biden, who generally keeps a low profile, the violence has left her feeling “deeply saddened,” she said. For her, the Capitol building is, of course, historically significant, but it’s also a place of family memories.

“This is a place I grew up going as a child… and a place where dad has worked for over 30 years, a sacred place really,” she said. “And to see what happened, to see what was going on, it was truly horrifying.”

“The violence saddens me, and it adds so much trauma.”

Ashley is Biden’s only child with his wife Jill, and while she didn’t have anything to say about Trump, she said she found the lack of correspondence between her mom and Melania Trump rather sad.

It’s traditional for there to be a transfer of power between the departing and incoming Presidents and typically there are family activities like a First Ladies’ ‘tea and tour’ around the White House. This provides the incoming First Lady the chance to ask her predecessor the necessary questions, and she’s introduced to residence staff.

But Ashley has confirmed that’s not happening this year and she added her mother hasn’t heard from Melania at all.

“No, I don’t think they’re doing the traditional protocol, which is unfortunate, but I think we’re all okay with it,” she said.

And unlike current First Daughter Ivanka Trump, Ashley Biden has no plans to work inside the White House.

“I will not have a job with the administration,” she said.

“I will however hopefully use this platform to advocate for social justice, for mental health, to be involved in community development and revitalization.”

It will be nice not to constantly hear about Trump’s obnoxious adult children every five minutes. What a relief.

Here’s what Ashley Biden had to say in the video below.
