Dominion Voting Systems Slaps $1.3 BILLION Lawsuit Against Rudy Giuliani: ’50 Demonstrably False Claims’

It is somewhat understandable that a fight for the Oval Office might make one believe that it is the most all-consuming issue of the time and that one must use any means available to win that fight, because all is fair in love and war, right?

No, of course not. Indeed that’s a stupid saying because there are plenty of restrictions in war and we hope we can all agree that there damned well better be many many more when it comes to love. It is no different in the fight for the Oval Office. People in the midst of the presidential contest may believe that they are the center of the universe, but there are plenty of folks out there that refuse to be trampled upon for someone else’s cause.

Enter Dominion Voting Systems.

We know nothing about Dominion other than, well, they make voting systems. We presume that they do a fairly good job because lots of companies make vote processors and yet Dominion has a lot of contracts in the United States. We can’t presume too much more about them. We can, however, presume that the Trumpers needed a foil to cast doubt on vote counts and something about Dominion made them a target, and again – we don’t know what made them the focus of attention, perhaps just their appearance in certain states.

Now Dominion wants the Trumpers to pay for lying about their company in their attempt to grasp victory from defeat From the New York Times:

The 107-page lawsuit, filed in the Federal District Court in Washington, accuses Mr. Giuliani of carrying out “a viral disinformation campaign about Dominion” made up of “demonstrably false” allegations, in part to enrich himself through legal fees and his podcast.

The suit seeks damages of more than $1.3 billion and is based on more than 50 statements Mr. Giuliani made at legislative hearings, on Twitter, on his podcast and in the conservative news media, where he spun a fictitious narrative of a plot by one of the biggest voting machine manufacturers in the country to flip votes to President Biden.

Mr. Giuliani, one of Mr. Trump’s closest advisers and confidants, has faced continuing fallout for his highly visible efforts to reverse the election outcome. This month, the chairman of the New York State Senate’s judiciary committee formally requested that the state court system strip Mr. Giuliani of his law license.

Some might very reasonably ask: “Why Rudy and not his client and the Trump campaign? Trump also said a bunch of lies about Dominion?”

We can offer some informed speculation.

First, Dominion filed this lawsuit with many goals, one of which is in the headline. They want the world to know that they’re not accepting the lies told about them and lawsuits for $1.3 billion are rare enough that it does catch the eye. It sends a message in and of itself. Second, as to Rudy himself, he is most likely the easiest to prove liability. Dominion has “50” Rudy statements that they believe are “demonstrably false.” Third, note that last line in the New York Times quote, Rudy is under investigation by the bar. People in lawsuits love it when an official entity proves the same facts that it is trying to prove. Official findings by the bar can be used as almost direct evidence. Fourth, most of the time, one can easily add co-defendants and they might want to hang Rudy on his own stuff and wait for Rudy to point the finger. And last, they might well know that Rudy doesn’t have the money to defend himself and may perhaps settle while pointing at Trump, akin to a criminal matter.

Above is simply our analysis given the facts in front of us, extending out into some logical speculation. Make of it what you will.

What everyone does know is that Rudy is going to go through some things. Rudy loved Trump and made war with the nation by weaponizing Dominion. But, again, there are rules to be followed even in these circumstances. We could make a pretty good argument that one should pay even greater attention to fairness in both love and war, given the increased potential to hurt people. Dominion Voting Systems may not be a soft, sympathetic victim, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t unfairly and significantly hurt in this war.
