People who hurt animals are the worst of the worst. Science often shows that when people commit worse crimes, they started by harming animals.
So it shouldn’t surprise us that Trump’s beloved boaters discovered a manatee and decided that the manatee ought to have a brand, literally. They scraped or cut “Trump” into its back. We only hope that manatees have a loose layer of something on their backs so it didn’t hurt as much. It is not like we care for the manatee more than we care about Officer Sicknick’s family, plus the manatee, while hurt, is alive. But it’s not like we don’t care, either.
We also care deeply about the sickness running through these people, this time demonstrated by Trump’s beloved boaters and not the hordes storming the Capitol. This kind of blind allegiance is how fascists rise and whether the evidence is video of people with handcuff ties roaming the Capitol or branding a manatee, it shows how close we are to fascism. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is investigating the harassment of a manatee. The animal was reported to federal authorities over the weekend when it was discovered with the words “Trump” scraped in its back.
It was discovered in the Blue Hole on the Homosassa River. The USFWS is looking for any information regarding the harassment of this animal. Call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation hotline at 888-404-3922 with information.

Again, the type of horde that would do such a cruel and pointless thing is the type that would just harm humans. After all, the manatee didn’t vote against Trump, the humans might.
