Trump’s Staff and Alumni are Doing Whatever They Can to Get Out of Trump’s ‘Big Send-Off’

Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci must have been shocked when he received an invite to President Trump’s military send-off. Scaramucci, who spent a scant 10 days and was let go after he verbally attacked several of his co-workers during an interview in 2017. In the interim, he’s become one of Trump’s harshest critics and endorsed President-elect Joe Biden.

To Scaramucci, that means Trump must really be struggling to find guests for his send-off tomorrow. Because it seems like everybody would like to be anywhere else but there.

“Trust me, that had to be a mass email if one of them got sent to me,” he told one outlet.

Trump is set to depart from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland Wednesday, and the event will take place there, The Week reports. But it’s apparently been a struggle for him to drum up enough attendees because few of his former staffers want to be photographed with him, according to Politico, and it looks like Scaramucci isn’t the only one who’s received it:

“In what looks like a desperate attempt to build a crowd for the crowd-obsessed president, an email has been making the rounds to current and former White House officials, inviting them, and as many as five plus-ones, to Trump’s elaborate exit ceremony,” the site noted Tuesday. “The go-to excuse for skipping out is the 6:00 a.m. call time at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. But truly, many just don’t want to be photographed sending off their former boss.”

Current staffers working under Trump are also trying to avoid him because being associated with the outgoing president is toxic. Everyone is trying to avoid the Trump taint.

“Former White House officials and campaign staffers who would typically land plum jobs in corporate America after serving their time are now out in the cold,” Politico notes. One former White House official who got out early put it this way: “No one wants to touch them, they’re just toxic.”

Most were probably toxic prior to the riots on Jan. 6, but for those who weren’t, the insurrection sealed the deal and another former White House official put things rather bluntly:

“They’re f*cked.”

I don’t feel the least bit sorry for any of these people. As we already know, some openly supported the riots, and prior to this, they supported their boss as he willingly and purposely did so much to take a sledgehammer to democracy in this country. I hope they don’t let the door hit them on their behinds when they leave.
