Chris Christie Has Absolutely No Sympathy For Ted Cruz: ‘Ted Has Just Not Been A Very Likable Guy’

Man, when Chris Christie feels confident enough to call you out as just flat unlikeable, you know you have issues. If Ted Cruz didn’t know before this week, he knows now, and he cannot turn to the GOP to bail him out. It was a GOP pol that leaked the trip to the press. That is bad, almost as bad as being called “unlikeable” by one of the least likable politicians in the modern age, Christie.

To be sure, New Jersians have never shown any indication that they even want a “likable” governor (though they do have one now, maybe by accident). Chris Christie seemed to fit a mold. Famously blue New Jersey would never have elected a Republican unless he was an extra-special asshole and they got what they wanted.

At one point early on, just as the GOP seemed to be looking for their extra-special jerk to nominate, a lot of people saw Christie as an inevitable GOP presidential candidate in 2016. Little did they know. Yes, Chris Christie was loathsome but nowhere near dumb enough to really have a chance. Chris Christie is actually very smart and he knew that from New Jersey’s perspective, he better tour around with Obama after Hurricane Sandy (2012). That really hurt his future in the Republican party.

Anyway, Christie took his shots from Ted at various times and now has Ted lined up in his sites. From HuffPo [1]:

“And I made mistakes at times because I was thinking more like a father than about the full-time job that I had. So I have sympathy in that. But I will tell you that it’s hard to have sympathy for Ted Cruz, because Ted was right on board making fun of me back in 2017 when I had that incident on the beach.”

Christie speculated that the media was “piling on” Cruz for his gaffe partially because “the media loves to pile on Republicans,” but also because “Ted has just not been a very likable guy.”

“He’s taken every chance he can to take shots at people on both sides of the aisle over the course of his career,” Christie said. “So … when you decide that’s what you want to do, especially on personal matters, there’s not going to be a ton of people running to your defense.”

Don’t worry, Chris. Guys like Trump and Ted make you seem more likable by the day. No, the media doesn’t like making fun of “Republicans” only. FOX – which is media, bro – spends every day making fun of Democrats. We agree, Ted will take on all kinds, both parties, but not to defend his wife (Which actually pisses us off. Not that we like her, but she’s very accomplished and happens to be the mother of those children Ted cited.) Actually, Chris, there are going to be exactly no people running to Ted’s defense except people like Gaetz and other loathsome creatures.

Anyway, the stir has brought up a crazy meme that we love:

Yeah, that’s a bad one.

It will be a while before Christie fully redeems himself with regular society but we gotta admit, a few more Gaetz’s, Cruz’s, and Trump’s will get Christie there, no problem. At the very least, Christie was decent enough to pal up with Obama for his state, and everyone better admit that Christie is smart as hell, because he is. That alone makes him better than the guys above, and also makes him one to watch.

Everything is relative, of course.
