‘Delighted’ Trump Was Confused Why His Staff ‘Wasn’t as Excited’ About the Capitol Riots, Labeled a ‘Psychopath’

House Democrats rested their case Thursday in the impeachment trial of former president Donald Trump after arguing that the rioters who stormed the Capitol building did so at his behest. Democratic House Impeachment Managers laid out a compelling case that included shocking new security footage of the siege, according to The Washington Times.

Armed with Trump’s tweets and public speeches, the prosecutors made plain just how dangerous this siege was as the rioters came within 100 feet of then-vice president Mike Pence and his family, who were in hiding. They escaped 12 minutes later as rioters ransacked Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office and searched for her.

And let me tell you, what impeachment managers David Cicilline, Madeleine Dean, and Ted Lieu had to say was compelling indeed.

Lieu (D-Calif.) noted that when lawsuits and other measures didn’t work, Trump looked elsewhere to further his cause.

“When he ran out of nonviolent measures, he turned to the violent mob that attacked your Senate chamber on Jan. 6,” he noted.

For Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Madeleine Dean, the riot turned terrifying as it unfolded.

“President Trump used the word ‘fight’ or ‘fighting’ 20 times, including telling the crowd they needed to ‘fight like hell’ to save our democracy,” Dean said. “Then he pointed to us, lit the fuse, and sent an angry mob to fight the perceived enemy — his own Vice President and the members of Congress — as we certified an election. This attack never would have happened but for Donald Trump.”

She cried as she talked about the “terrifying banging on the House chamber doors” by the angry mob that stormed inside the Capitol building.

Cicilline’s remarks were especially pointed, and the Democratic Rhode Island Rep. swiftly encapsulated the shocking attack on democracy and condemned Trump’s actions.

“The President of the United States sided with the insurrectionists,” Cicilline said. “He celebrated their cause. He validated their attack. He told them ‘Remember this day forever.'”

That, he noted spurred the mob on.

“Hours after they marched through this hall looking to assassinate Vice President Pence, the Speaker of The House, and any of us they could find. Given all that, it’s no wonder that President Trump would rather talk about jurisdiction and a supposed January exception rather than talk about what happened on January 6th.”

He added that no matter what excuses the former president makes, “the Senate can and should require President Trump to stand trial.”

“Just weeks ago, weeks ago, the President of the United States literally incited an armed attack on the Capitol — our seat of government, while seeking to retain power by subverting an election he lost and then celebrated the attack. People lost their lives. People were brutally injured. President Trump’s actions endangered every single member of Congress, his own vice president, thousands of congressional staffers, and our own Capitol police and other law enforcement. This was a national tragedy, a disaster for America’s standing in the world, and President Trump is singularly responsible for inciting it.”

The trial resumes Friday when Trump’s lawyers are expected to begin their defense.

Unsurprisingly, Senate Republicans have already said there aren’t 17 votes among their ranks to convict Trump. That’s the number that would be needed, along with all 50 Democrats to reach the two-thirds vote that’s necessary to convict.

But were you really expecting Republicans to go against Trump? In his four years as president, few Republicans stood up to this man. Collectively, it seems they have no stomach for it.

And make no mistake, Trump was pleased that this angry mob stormed the Capitol, even to the point of ignoring pleas from his aides to step in, according to the Daily Beast. Several aides tried to convince him to do something, and only did so after people lost their lives.

Because folks, that’s the kind of creep he is.

I’m including Cicilline’s testimony in the video below.
