Don Jr. Shamelessly Brags That His Dad Didn’t ‘Lose Gracefully’ After Legitimate Election

In the waning months of his presidency, Donald Trump spread baseless and completely false allegations and conspiracy theories, and the legal actions he filed to overturn the election failed. He inspired his followers to “fight” against President Joe Biden’s victory and riled them up in a speech on Jan. 6th at the Capitol building using disturbing words that spurred the riots that took place on that tragic day.

His son, Donald Trump Jr. thinks all of that is exactly what Republicans should do, and he said so Thursday evening during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity where he criticized Republicans who “lose gracefully” and don’t stand up to Democrats, saying they needed to act more like his father, Business Insider reports.

“The Republicans aren’t willing to do it,” he told Hannity. “They’ve shown that over the decades.”

He added: “They’d just rather lose gracefully, I guess. That’s not really a plan I would go with, but it’s what they’ve done. Donald Trump has shown that you don’t have to do that. You can actually push back.”

Some Republicans have extended a bipartisan olive branch to Biden and have expressed an openness to working with him and the President has signaled he wants to encourage bipartisanship. Biden has also signed executive actions to overturn some of Trump’s decidedly racist policies.

Trump Jr. can claim whatever he likes but the fact remains that dear old dad is the only president to be impeached twice only to be acquitted by Senate Republicans who gave him ample support. The younger Trump is correct that Republicans need to stand up — to his father, who tried to lie, bully, and intimidate his way into a second presidential term.

But Republicans should also stand up to Biden when he makes a wrong presidential turn. The Bureau of Investigative Journalism notes that Obama in his first year in office conducted more drone strikes in the Middle East than former President George W. Bush did during his entire presidency. Somalia, Pakistan, and Yemen suffered 563 strikes, mostly by drones and reports vary as to how many civilian casualties there were but it’s estimated between 384 and 807 civilians lost their lives in the attacks. During his time in office, Bush authorized 57 strikes.

It also needs to be noted that during his final year in office, Obama authorized 26,172 bomb strikes in seven countries, according to the Council on Foreign Relations. Most of the bombs (24, 287) were dropped in Iraq and Syria. The U.S. has kept mum on the number of civilians lost in these attacks, notes The Guardian, but I’m sure there were a horrific number of fatalities.

And no, I’m not trying to pile on Obama, I’m saying instead that he had an itchy trigger finger. I’m calling on Republicans — and Democrats to do their damned jobs and step up whenever it’s necessary. As elected officials, it’s their job to do this.

I’m including the clip of Trump Jr. on Hannity’s program below.
