GOP Hypocrisy

Fox & Friends are Very Mad That People Compare Don Jr. to Osama bin Laden

Wednesday night MSNBC host Chris Hayes compared gun-loving Republicans to Osama bin Laden and the Fox & Friends crew is not happy about this, Mediaite reports.

It seems that Hayes has noticed an unusual trend that involves a number of Republican politicians and officials posting videos or taking part in teleconference calls with more than a few guns featured prominently on walls behind them. That led the MSNBC host to compare the gun hoarders to bin Laden, who was often featured with guns in the background.

When the original segment aired Tuesday evening it featured self-produced photos of Donald Trump Jr. and recently elected Rep. Lauren Boebert surrounded by more than a few guns and this led Hayes to make the comparison.

“As weird as this image is, it is kind of becoming a trend on the right,” Hayes said, adding “Osama bin Laden, for one, liked to pose in front of a bookshelf with a gun prominently displayed.”

So Fox & Friends took this a step further, airing a clip of Fox News contributor Joey Jones reacting indignantly to Hayes’s segment Wednesday night to Shannon Bream.

“Let me tell Chris Hayes, how dare you tell someone like me that I’m anything like the man whose life’s work was to take my legs and dozens of my friends’ lives,” Jones said. “I’m sorry we disagree but you weak-minded individual, how dare you say anything like that to me. I take that personal.”

Some of Jones’s anger is understandable because he lost both legs in an IED attack while on a tour of duty in Afghanistan in August 2010, so I’m cutting him slack for that. But that anger should really be directed at Donald Trump Jr. and Lauren Boebert. Neither served in the military. One kills innocent animals while the other tweeted “remember these next 48 hours. These are some of the most important days in American history” the day before the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol building. On the day of the riot, she tweeted “Today is 1776.”

Better to be mad at fake patriots like Boebert and not Hayes, who was really commenting on the extremism of some Republicans.

But Brian Kilmeade was floored by Hayes’s commentary and he went on to make really absurd remarks.

“Unbelievable analogy,” he said, then claimed that number “1b” on Biden’s agenda (1a is apparently the Green New Deal) is to separate people from their guns.

“First thing is going away is ammo,” Kilmeade said. “People are talking about this across the country. Very hard to get ammo across the country. That is the second amendment. They will come after so-called assault weapons.”

This is a common complaint from right-wingers. We heard it after Sandy Hook, after Parkland, after Las Vegas, after some unhinged person with a rifle creates another national tragedy. Biden isn’t coming to take people’s guns, but he is, however, in favor of gun control and right-wingers get in a big dither over this just like they did when Obama tried to enact it.

But Ainsley Earhardt picked up where Kilmeade left off.

“That comparison should make everyone furious. This guy [bin Laden], a terrorist tried to take everything away from our country. We had soldiers went over there and fought for everything, sacrificed it all to give our country back.”

It’s just the same conservative hysteria all over again. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
