Once Again, Jen Psaki Destroys Peter Doocy When He Attempted a ‘Gotcha’ Question

Peter Doocy certainly doesn’t learn very quickly and is suffering the consequences.

Time and time again, reporters from the Right attempt to push Jen Psaki into a corner or lazily ask a FOX type of question; “People are saying…” and Jen Psaki continues to easily avoid the traps, all to the detriment of reporters like Doocy.

Trump’s “kids in cages” policy enraged the American public more than any other issue that arose in the Trump administration, even his handling of COVID. Obviously, outrage was the only appropriate response. Thus, FOX and Peter Doocy seem committed to linking President Biden to the same policy and the exact same issues.

It is not working. In part, because the Biden administration is committed to resolving the horror that arose under Trump, and in part, because Psaki knows exactly what Doocy is trying to do and can slap it back. Doocy made it especially easy today.

Doocy asked a question suggesting that the policy hasn’t changed for the sole reason that the Biden administration uses one of the same buildings. Doocy’s gotcha question was to use the building to link the Biden administration to the same policy. He implied that kids were still “in cages and that it was hypocritical because Vice President Kamala Harris said that Trump’s treatment of kids was inhumane.

It looked like Psaki couldn’t believe that Doocy actually asked the question and said that the administration agreed with what Vice President Harris said and that changes have been made.

We very much feel that way. These are facilities — let me be clear here — one, there’s a pandemic going on? I’m sure you’re not suggesting that we have children right next to each other in ways that are not COVID safe, are you?

Doocy then made his point very clear. Yes, he was asserting that President Biden has the same policy as Trump and the kids remain “caged” on the border. Doocy said:

“I’m suggesting that Kamala Harris said that this facility — putting people in this facility was a human rights abuse committed by the United States government. And Joe Biden said, ‘Under Trump, there have been horrifying scenes at the border of kids being kept in cages.’ Now, it’s not under Trump, it’s under Biden.”

Apparently, Doocy believes that simply using the same building to keep the kids – now separated from their parents – means that Biden was following the exact same policy. Psaki then laid the difference in a way that even Doocy should understand:

“This is not kids being kept in cages. This is a facility that was opened that’s going to follow the same standards as other HHS facilities. It is not a replication. Certainly not. That is never our intention of replicating the immigration policies of the past administration.”

Psaki made it even clearer for “poor Peter”:

“That is not what we’re going to do here as an administration. We need to find places that are safe under COVID protocols for kids to be, where they can have access to education, health and mental services, consistent with their best interests.”

Under Trump, kids slept on cold floors, if they could lay out on the floors at all. The Biden administration is working to ensure COVID protocols are followed and the kids have access to basic services, including mental health services. Until the Biden administration finds the kids’ parents, the policies couldn’t possibly differ more.

Psaki had all the information needed and threw it right back in a way that humiliated Doocy. Perhaps he will learn, eventually. Perhaps not.
