Ted Cruz Blames Trump for the Media’s Obsession With His Trip to Cancun Mexico

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) has earned a well-deserved browbeating over the last week after going on vacation with his wife and kids in Cancun while millions of other people in the state dealt with a deadly storm that brought freezing temperatures, resulting in nearly 80 deaths.

Last week on Sean Hannity’s program, he spoke to the Fox News host about the controversy and even noted he “had initially planned to stay through the weekend.”

On Monday, he popped up on Hannity’s show once again, this time to discuss the Senate confirmation hearings for Attorney General nominee Merrick Garland, but right before the program’s end, Hannity brought up the media’s coverage of Cruz and compared it to coverage of New York’s governor Andrew Cuomo, who’s facing criticism and calls for an investigation over under-counting nursing home deaths, Mediaite reports.

“You dropped off your daughters in Mexico, you came home in a day, probably less than a day,” Hannity said.

Then he chastised the media for dragging Cruz but “barely mentioning” the scandal involving Cuomo, noting “You’re like 24/7, ’cause you dropped somebody off and you came back home. I still think you can be a father and a senator at the same time.”

That led him to ask Cruz:

“Where’s the proportionality from the mob and media?”

This led Cruz to really minimize his trip as if it were nothing more than a couple of hours at the beach.

“I think the media is suffering from Trump withdrawal, where they’ve attacked Trump every day for four years, they don’t know what to do, so they obsessed over my taking my girls to the beach,” he said.

Even though that beach is at least 1888 miles away, and warm and sunny while some of his constituents froze to death in their cars and even in their own homes after their electricity was cut off.

What kind of an insensitive jerk do you have to be to leave your own people to suffer while you have a good time? While he left people to struggle through this, other kind, responsible people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stepped in. The Democratic New York Congresswoman held a fundraiser that raised nearly $5 million for Texans hit hard by this deadly storm.

Oh, and Cruz did admit he finally plans to do his job, by telling Hannity that at Garland’s confirmation hearing, he wants to ask if Garland if he will open an investigation into Cuomo over the nursing home scandal. It’s anyone’s guess as to what will come of that but I’m glad Cruz has finally remembered he has a job.
