Somehow, the Trump family (or those in its orbit) have found a way to grift off something almost as bad as kids with cancer. They are grifting money off dogs in need of a home.
We are sure this will not surprise anyone. Lara Trump [1] has strong links to a dog rescue charity that has spent as much as $1.9 million at former President Donald Trump [2]’s properties over just the last seven years and is scheduled to spend an additional $250,000 at his Mar-a-Lago [3] country club this weekend. A quarter of a million dollars can pay for a lot of nice space for dogs and a lot of decent dog food.
From Huffington Post:
Internal Revenue Service filings show that the group has spent as much as $1,883,160 on fundraising costs at Mar-a-Lago and Trump’s golf course 18 miles north in Jupiter starting in 2014. Lara Trump, the wife of Eric Trump, started being listed as a chairwoman for charity events in 2018, and the group’s president, Lauren Simmons, visited the White House in 2019 for the signing of a bill addressing animal cruelty.
We are all for a bill that prohibits animal cruelty but if someone has nearly $2 million dollars in a charity for dog rescue and that money doesn’t go to dog rescue, that might be considered cruel in and of itself.
“The quality of service, beauty of the venue and excellent rate provided us as a nonprofit as well as the generosity of supporters who sell-out our event there every year allows us to rescue and home thousands of dogs. Our investment there and at the other venues mentioned in the article has netted more than $12 million over an eight-year period which allows us to continue our mission,” Simmons said.
The Big Dog Ranch Rescue has spent as much as $1.9 million at his properties in recent years and is spending $225,000 more at Mar-a-Lago this weekend. https://t.co/WHLZGQnuDy [4]

Ah, yes, of course. The “We need to have it at a beautiful place and spend money to get money” defense. We aren’t sure if that works with respect to animal rescue charities but we’re not surprised to see it used. It is the only way to get the money to Trump. If it were truly to help the shelter, Mar-a-Lago would have it at cost.
Meanwhile, as reported by Rawstory [6]:
That report had critics of the family fuming at the stunning amount of cash ending up in the pockets of the Trump family and not used for pet rescue, with many saying it’s just another “grift” by the family.
Americans responded strongly. After all, as said, taking money from dogs and giving it to the Trumps is almost as bad as taking it from kids with cancer:
This keeps happening, must be a coincidence https://t.co/rqKeHUXrS5 [7]

It seems worth considering — hear me out now — the possibility that the entire #Trump [12] family is human garbage. Also, that water is wet.@LaraLeaTrump [13] https://t.co/OWQ0fpwaCB [14]

Lara Trump used a dog rescue to funnel almost two million dollars to Trump properties and it makes my blood boil knowing how many shelters are struggling to raise funds during COVID. https://t.co/7Y4gYHLLf9 [16]

Having a hard time believing this one (nor any other #tRumpCrimeFamily [18] member) having enough empathy to care about rescue dogs.
Can't the entire grifting bunch just be dropped down a deep hole and forgotten? https://t.co/6W2iHfmU3j [19]— Timothy Reyes (@TimothyReyes42) March 13, 2021 [20]
