Recent Fox News hire Kayleigh McEnany appeared on Varney & Co. to lament that her former boss, Donald Trump, is a victim of “cancel culture” and to insist he doesn’t miss being on Twitter. Trump, she said, is “doing just fine” and finds it “freeing not to have Twitter.”
More than a few of us on Twitter also find it “freeing.” No more being assaulted with his bellicose rants about “voter fraud” and the “stolen election.” No more of his stirring up hate and fear, and no more of his tweets belittling people who don’t do exactly what he wants.
On the Friday morning program, McEnany and pro-Trump host Stuart Varney discussed Trump’s ban on most social media platforms and Varney voiced concerns over this, the Daily Beast [1] reports.
“I am concerned about the silencing of Donald Trump,” Varney groused, adding that YouTube’s CEO recently said Trump’s channel on the site will remain suspended due to the risk of encouraging violence.
After inciting insurrectionist violence in an attempt to prevent Congress from certifying President Joe Biden’s election victory, tech companies and social media sites dropped the then-president from their platforms, citing concerns over Trump spreading election disinformation and stirring his followers to become violent.
“I wonder if you have spoken to Mr. Trump recently Kayleigh,” What has he got to say?” Varney said.
“I spoke to him this week,” she responded. “I spoke to him, certainly, in the wake of the Twitter ban.
“He said it was kind of freeing not to have Twitter,” she said. “He has a lot of time on his hands. He is doing just fine without social media.”
Then she turned to the current Republican whine of the day: cancel culture, saying it’s a “travesty” that Trump is a victim of “cancel culture” and that liberals are trying to keep him out of the public eye. (Go liberals!)
“This isn’t about stopping violence,” McEnany said. “This is about stopping Trump, stopping his ideology, his movement by removing him from society (she says that like it’s a bad thing.) We should all stand against it.”
But Trump and his “ideology” definitely riled the more violent among his supporters, so removing him from the public eye is pretty much imperative, thus this is about stopping violence.
And of course, she couldn’t resist bringing up the one controversy Fox News hosts have been harping on all week:
“We saw the censoring of the Dr. Seuss books,” McEnany said. “We’ve gotten to a point of craziness that the average man and woman doesn’t want to be part of.”
Meanwhile, you’d never know that Trump doesn’t miss Twitter, since his recent public statements pretty much sound like his whiny Twitter meltdowns that followed his bleary-eyed late-night cable news viewing.
