It seems metaphysically impossible to have an “anti-mask” fetish. But, then again, it would also seem impossible to believe that Donald Trump is just below God in an almost religious sense. And yet that is right where the MAGAs stand. MAGA has become a religion such that the fanatics, lost in their spiritual “high” can no longer be trusted to act as rational citizens.

Forget for just a moment that the entire anti-mask thing is beyond stupid, it is evil. Forget that. The MAGAs go next-level and hate the people that do want to wear masks to protect themselves and their community. The only real parallels to this type of human behavior are interfaith wars as seen in the Middle East, India-Pakistan, Ireland, all that. Now we have it here in the United States, the MAGA religion against the self-actualized regular person who watches The Daily Show, loves football, and doesn’t believe Donald Trump is god.

Someone needs to explain this, from the Washington Post:

This week, after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said Tuesday that he would rescind the statewide mask mandate while the vast majority of residents remain unvaccinated, the tough choice to enforce public health guidance fell to business owners, and Picos announced it would continue requiring masks. But, after such a challenging year, the reaction to their decision was disheartening, co-owner Monica Richards said: Several people sent hateful messages through social media and called the restaurant, threatening to report staffers to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“It was just horrific,” Richards said. “People don’t understand unless you’re in our business what it felt like, how hard it was to go through everything we went through during covid. For people to be negative toward us for trying to remain safe, so that this doesn’t continue to happen, just makes zero sense to us.”

Threaten to call ICE. There is no way to interpret that “threat” than anything less than white people believing that they have the right to throw brown people out of “their” nation. There are Mexican-Americans who are more American than the white people threatening to call ICE! But such a thought would never occur to a MAGA because they are white.

The idea of a family that hates masks simply saying, “Huh, well, what about that other place?” and ignoring the hatred for the owners and staff of that restaurant is contrary to everything they believe. They are in a war, they are white, they will call ICE.

And Donald Trump told them that being white was important again, in fact, it was the only real important thing. It is a religious belief now and there are a lot of ugly forces coalescing in that “faith.”
