Biden Restores POW/MIA Flag to It’s Rightful Place at the White House After Trump Removed It

Last year the Trump administration relocated a flag honoring war veterans missing in action, moving it from a prominent place atop the White House to a less visible spot on the South Lawn and this quite understandably angered veterans and lawmakers, who viewed this as disrespectful and potentially illegal,” Reuters reported at the time.

Fortunately, President Joe Biden has seen to it that the flag is back in its proper place where it’s easily visible and can honor vets, PoliticusUSA reports.

In a Friday press conference, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters:

“In keeping with the President and First Lady’s commitment to honor the sacrifices of all those who serve including veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors, the President, and First Lady have restored the POW/MIA flag to its original location on top of the White House residence.”

For four years Trump ridiculed and disrespected veterans, calling fallen soldiers “losers” and “suckers,” and that sparked plenty of controversies. As if that weren’t bad enough, he publicly disparaged the late Senator John McCain, famously criticizing his status as a war hero by saying:

“He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”

That didn’t sit well with a few people who were upset with his removing the flag to an inconspicuous spot.

“It’s bad enough that President Trump publicly ridicules American heroes like Senator McCain and others who were captured on the battlefield. He inexplicably promotes the Confederate flag but fails to fly the POW/MIA flag,” said Senator Jack Reid, a Democrat, who co-sponsored a bill that required the flag to be flown at certain federal properties, including the White House, daily. Trump subsequently signed the bill into law. “It’s part of a pattern of disrespect by President Trump toward those who honorably served our nation.”

It’s pretty disgusting that Trump treats military people with such disrespect when you consider the fact that he got out of serving in the military because of those so-called bone spurs on his heels. My ex-husband served on an ammunition ship near the end of the Vietnam War and it was a worrisome time for my family. My father served in World War II and the Korean War. While I’m definitely not pro-military I still found his comments offensive.

So I’m glad President Biden has seen fit to do the right thing.
