Glenn Beck is Really, Really Sad That Derek Chauvin Will Most Likely Die in Prison

In an appearance Tuesday on Fox News, conservative commentator Glenn Beck urged viewers to have compassion for Derek Chauvin’s family. Chauvin, a former Minneapolis Police Officer was found guilty on all three counts stemming from his role in the death of George Floyd an unarmed Black man. His loss last summer sparked protests nationwide and reignited debate over police brutality and systemic racism, The Wrap [1] notes.

But in an interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Beck implored viewers to be empathetic.

“This takes another man who got up one day and wasn’t thinking, ‘I’m going to kill somebody,’ away from his family — perhaps for the rest of his life,” Beck said.

Excuse me? Chauvin had plenty of time to think about that during the 9+ minutes he knelt on Floyd’s neck. I believe he thought he was going to get away with this and fortunately he didn’t. Yes it’s sad his family will now have to deal with this but Floyd’s family has to deal with pain caused by someone who was cruel enough to do this.

Chauvin pleaded not guilty on each count. The most serious of these counts carries a likely penalty of 12.5 years according to sentencing guidelines for first-time offenders. It’s expected he’ll be sentenced later this summer.

But Beck says people should be “more like the Amish” who mourned with the family of anyone who killed another member. He seemed to be referring to a case in 2006 when a gunman opened fire on 10 young Amish girls, resulting in five deaths. Community members attended the gunman’s funeral, reports [2] say.

“It’s about collective justice and collective guilt,” Beck said in response to public reaction to the sentencing.

Justice for Black Americans victimized by cops has been far too long in coming and as for collective guilt — I’m pinning that one on racist cops who think they can get away with things like what happened to George Floyd. I hope Chauvin’s conviction sends a message: That we aren’t going to tolerate things like this anymore.
