Madison Cawthorn Wants To Protect Trump’s Half-Finished Wall as a Monument, or a ‘Donument’ (Not Joking)
Trump-supporting North Carolina Congressman Madison Cawthorn, the youngest member of the House has another idea for former President Donald Trump’s failed border wall: Why not turn it into a national monument?
The border wall featured prominently in then-candidate Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and during his four years in office, more than 400 miles of border wall were built along the 1933-mile-long U.S./Mexico border, USAToday reports. But only 80 miles were built where no wall was previously built, BBC News reported in January.
The wall is just one of a number of things Trump failed at — like implementing a decent healthcare plan or any sensible way to deal with a devastating pandemic, but apparently Cawthorn views life through rose-colored glasses and heaps praise on his idol.
“For four years President Trump worked to secure the southern border of the United States by constructing a wall in places where there was little to no fencing,” Cawthorn noted in a statement Tuesday regarding the legislation, H.R. 2390, cutesily called “The Donument Act.”
“The Donument Act establishes the southern border wall as the ‘Southern Border Wall National Monument,’ and gives the monument permanent protection from alteration.”
But when Joe Biden became President one of the first steps he took was to issue an executive order pausing construction of the wall and saying the wall was “not a serious policy decision” and a “waste of money.”
Cawthorn however, noted in a tweet Tuesday that if the border wall becomes a monument it will be the first step in completing it.
“I will make every effort to protect and secure the southern border, and advance an America first agenda,” he tweeted. “If Biden refuses to finish the wall, you can be sure that American patriots will do everything in their power to protect it.”
I am proud to announce that I dropped the "Donument" Act on the House floor last week.
This bill would protect the southern border wall built by President Trump by creating a "Southern Border Wall National Monument."

Cawthorn spoke at the Republican National Convention in August 2020 and has been affiliated with Trump ever since. He also spoke at Trump’s rally before the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan.6.
He has been the lead sponsor of nine bills since being sworn into office in January, including making Daylight Savings Time permanent, ensuring that Capitol Police receive adequate mental health care. But in this relatively short time, Cawthorn has also been hit with allegations that he sexually harassed classmates in college, and challengers are already ginning up for his seat in the 2022 election.
And as you might expect his tweet above received plenty of commentary. It’s what he deserves for suggesting something this ridiculous for a man who clearly doesn’t deserve any monuments anywhere.
This is so sycophantic and idiotic, it has to be an SNL parody? I know you RepubliCONs are ass-kissing #MAGATs, but this is absurd. I think maybe Sasha Cohen might have punked you into this.

You make a mockery of both the privilege and responsibility of being in the House of Representatives.

You don't give traitors a monument. You throw them in jail. Their names are erased from everything but history books to be used only as a warning to future generations.#SeditionCaucus pic.twitter.com/UBk0IeYmyK
