Melania Immediately Criticized For Calling Trump ‘President’ in Her Tribute to Prince Philip

Melania Trump sent a tweet to offer condolences to Britain’s royal family after the death of Prince Philip and it’s sparked a fierce controversy on Twitter over the way she worded it, according to Yahoo! Lifestyle.

“President Trump and I extend our deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen, the Royal Family, and the people of Great Britain as the world mourns the loss of Prince Philip,” she tweeted.

As you’d imagine, seeing “President” + “Trump” still horrifies many of us.

I’m guessing you can figure out which part of the tweet is causing the stir. Unsurprisingly, the Twitterati are calling her on the carpet for referring to Donald Trump as “President Trump.”

“That is kind of you to acknowledge, but please don’t refer to your husband in the present tense as ‘President,'” wrote one commenter.

Others reminded her “you mean FORMER president.”

Some folks were fine with her message, with one fan writing “your kind words are greatly appreciated. Thank you both.”

Another wrote:

“I am not even a fan of (Donald..) Trump, but it’s really annoying how people manage to put negative comments and hate even on a post like this. RIP Prince Philip.”

Melania may have done this inadvertently, but she is an attention-seeker, so it’s difficult to know if this was unintentional. I think the biggest reason she’s being reminded of this is that people are relieved her husband is no longer president and don’t particularly like the reminder that he was. Therefore Twitter users are more than happy to make their thoughts known.

One Twitter user also reminded her Prince Philip’s realm included the entirety of the UK, not just Great Britain.

Maybe Melania was doing this to boost the former president’s already inflated ego. I’m glad Twitter folks were on hand to keep it real.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral is scheduled to be held at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor, at 3 P.M. Saturday, April 17th. The event will be ceremonial instead of a state funeral and will honor Prince Philip’s 70 years of service to the commonwealth.
